Olympiakos fans held their breath on Tuesday night as their favorite team went up against Manchester United, but it was well worth it since the Piraeus-based team won the UK soccer club 2–0 in what was the first game out of two knock-out games for the Champions League quarter finals.

Manchester United played passively and their game play was predictable, with their two top attacking players, Robin Van Persie and Wayne Rooney completely cut off by their midfielders. On the other hand, our Greek team played aggressively, with short passes and many attempts for clear shots.

Team captain Yiannis Maniatis took a shot outside the box 38 minutes into the game, and from what we saw the ball was headed for goalkeeper David De Gea’s hands, when it was deflected on Olympiakos midfielder Hori Dominguez’ foot and surprise, surprise it ended up in the goalkeeper's net.

(What a stroke of luck that was!)

The British team was obviously insulted and then attempted to retaliate but Olympiakos maintained its. After a short 15 minute break, Olympiakos returned and played an even more aggressive game. And less than ten minutes later Joel Campbell took another shot outside the box but this time the shot was technical, the ball wasn’t deflected and goalkeeper De Gea couldn’t reach for it. The score was now at 2–0 in favor of Olympiakos and Piraeus went ablaze!

Supporters inside the Piraeus Karaiskaki stadium could not control their excitement and began celebrating. Following the game, the celebrations were taken to the heart of the city and continued well into the night.
