Athens Meat Market Lights Up BBQ To Celebrate Tsiknopempti

If you are planning to visit the Athens market today then we suggest a trip to the Athens meat market -otherwise known as the Varvakeios Agora - where local butchers will be offering the public one-and-a-half tons of free BBQ chicken, pork, lamb, and hundreds of liters of wine in celebration of Tsiknopempti (otherwise known as BBQ Thursday - one of the last days of feasting on the Greek Orthodox calendar before the run-up to Lent.)

The butchers in Athens' largest permanent meat and produce market have been lighting up the coals since the crisis in Greece began and as such shoppers receive an extra special treat every "Tsiknopempti" for just doing their grocery shopping.
