The government, together with representatives from the former national broadcaster ERT's union POSPERT, the Union of Athens Newspapers, and the Hellenic Federation of Journalists, and professor Nikos Alivizatos are working feverishly on a draft law for the new national broadcaster (NERIT). The law, which already began being tabled at the Parliament's committee of public administration, is expected to be completed by Thursday.
The draft which was posted on the parliament's website, states that NERIT (the New Hellenic Radio Internet and Television network) will be an independent corporation, wholly owned and supervised by the state.
According to the proposed bill, the finance minister, the culture minister and a minister specially appointed for matters of public radio and television are going to represent the state at NERIT general assemblies.
