The new Hellenism Council (SAE) convened last week presided by president of Parliament's Special Permanent Overseas Hellenism Committee, New Democracy party deputy Adonis Georgiadis. In such a framework Deputy Foreign Minister Costas Tsiaras, who is responsible for Hellenism affairs said that:
"Expatriates must have a leading position among the creative forces that our country needs, through a relation of mutuality, sincerity and directness with the metropolitan centre."
He added that there is a need for the utilisation of the Greek Diaspora as national capital, and underlined that the one of the priorities of the present government is to reorganise this institutional framework.
"We are pursuing the creation of a SAE that will be more representative and creative, that will be able to activate all the forces of ecumenical Hellenism, placing emphasis mainly on youth".
