Papandreou Refuses To Testify - AGAIN !

After being invited for a second time to clarify his role in how his government dealt with a scandalous list of more than 2,000 possible tax evaders with accounts in Switzerland's HSBC, former Prime Minister George Papandreou informed the parliamentary committee that is conducting a criminal investigation into the controversial Lagarde List that he simply cannot make it to Greece. In other words, he basically turned down a second opportunity to appear before the panel of MPs and instead chose to once again submit written comments.

The written deposition he sent the committee last week left some questions unanswered and he was summoned to testify in person, but as we reported a couple of days ago on HellasFrappe he has planned to go to Vegas instead!

Nonetheless, he sent a second note to the committee, saying that he had nothing to add to his previous deposition, which he added contains "fully and clearly everything that I have to present to the committee in relation to the matter under investigation.”

In the written deposition he sent the committee last week, he said he he had no knowledge of the contents of the controversial list but that he had instructed officials to crack down on tax evasion. Generalaties one would say, and they are that is why the committee voted unanimously to once again summon him to testify. In the same deposition Papandreou also said that he had been informed about the potential for acquiring data relating to the savings of Greeks abroad in mid-2010 by his Finance Minister Giorgos Papakonstantinou.

A request for Papandreou to be summoned for a third time from SYRIZA, as well as proposal that Papandreou be brought to the inquiry by force by the Golden Dawn party and the Independent Greeks party were rejected.

In our last article on HellasFrappe, we mentioned that a Financial Crimes Squad (SDOE) official had claimed that Papandreou's mother, Margarita, is involved with a fund that is the largest depositor on the list (or a whopping US 550 million).

On Tuesday this SDOE official, or Evangelos Karamanos, told the panel that it would be fairly straightforward for authorities to discover the people involved in this deposit in an Ireland-based mutual fund.

Of course, Papandreou’s mother, Margarita, has denied all claims that she is involved with the fund and last month she had even published a complaint letter in Eleftherotypia threatening that she was going to sue these allegations.

That should come as no surprise to anyone, the money is indeed a huge amount. But we wonder, is this why Papandreou is afraid of coming to Greece?

No one knows. Nonetheless an interesting story was published on Olympia on Wednesday talking about this specific deposit, and its ties to a "political figure".

HellasFrappe is following the story and we will present a follow-up in the days to come.

We just want to note something. Have you noticed how silent the foreign media is about this? Have you noticed that there are no reports whatsoever in the foreign press about Papandreou being summoned to explain himself in front of an investigative committee? On the contrary they invite him on their news programs and analyze the Greek financial crisis. Is that incredible?

Where is the justice in this world? If it wasn't for blogs we would have been wondering in total darkness. Certainly there is more than meets the eye here and certainly Papandreou is afraid of something.

Stay tuned Frappers, looks like another scandal is about to blow.
