The Greek government agreed with the Troika on Tuesday afternoon to fill in the positions in the public sector that are set to be emptied after the removal of perjury public employees. Reports said that for each civil servant to be removed the Greek government will have the opportunity to appoint another to fill in the void.
This agreement aims to encourage quality improvement of public services and show the implementation of meritocracy and efficiency rules. The substitution is not going to concern the positions that were left vacant by retirements or other reasons, but those that emptied because the public employees that were covering them were charged with disciplinary or other misconducts (skipping work as well).
The government originally estimated that at least 1,000 civil servants will be fired, (even though most reports claim that this number is higher than 2,000), and based on the agreement the substitution is to continue as high as the final number of perjurer employees reaches.
