As negotiations with troika draw to an end Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras is turning his attention to social issues and especially the hardship faced by most citizens during the economic crisis. There is only one last gap to close before the Troika leaves contempt and that deals with the layoffs of civil servants. (Something which was agreed when Papandreou's government was in power, but never materialized, and then signed by Evangelos the Large, but not materialized either). Nonetheless this issue is drawing to a close as well and hopefully it will pave the way for the release of the two tranches totaling 8.8 billion Euros.

The government is content with the financial results recorded in the first quarter of the year but is concerned over the incredible increase in unemployment. It is already thinking of strengthening the weaker social strata which is also a request for some time now by the other two coalition parties.

Another issue is to promote privatizations, an area that is presently not moving at all because in most cases there are conflicts of interest playing in the background. Nonetheless Samaras believes this is going to change in April, as a number of major projects are scheduled to begin again and the payment of State debts to individuals is already underway, making officials believe it is going to give small breaths of financial air (or relief) to the strangled Greek market.
