A Greek Coffee A Day … Keeps Heart (And Brain) Happy & Healthy

Lecturer at the University of Athens Medical School, published in the Vascular Medicine Journal, Dr Gerasimos Siasos, claims that the extraordinary life expectancy of Ikaria’s inhabitants may be attributed to the systematic consumption of Greek coffee.

In a recent study Siasos examined the association between chronic coffee consumption and endothelium function in elderly inhabitants of the island of Ikaria, and concluded that chronic coffee consumption is associated with improved endothelial function in elderly subjects.

Siasos explains that the endothelial function, is that 'boiled coffee seems to generate antioxidant  substances' that reduce the risk of heart attacks and arterial occlusions. Of course, let’s not forget the other two secrets of the Ikarian longevity: The Mediterranean diet as well as an afternoon nap!
