Extraordinary Meeting - Intergovernmental Cooperation with Israel

In the wake of Israel's apology to Turkey for a deadly 2010 raid on a Turkish ship, and the possible restoration of normal relations between the two countries, Athens finally contacted Israel and agreed to organize a Supreme Intergovernmental Council (G to G) meeting. According to a report on defencenet  the extraordinary meeting is to be organized through diplomatic channels and held in the weeks to follow.

In such a framework, and with the crisis in Cyprus looming, Prime Minister Antonis Samaras contacted his Israeli counterpart B.Netanyahu and pointed out to him that Greece is ready to finally declare its EEZ, but that it desires increased cooperation with Israel. (The positive note here is that Israel wants more cooperation with Greece as well).

After all, Greece is the only country that has actually held peaceful relations with Israel in a region which is extremely unfriendly to the Holy Land.

Therefore Greek officials aspire that the relationship between Israel and Greece, will in no way be compromised by this "apology."

Because right now Israel needs Greece, just as much as Greece needs Israel.
