A broad government meeting was held late Friday evening under Prime Minister Antonis Samaras to look into the details of an array of current issues, including pending economic and fiscal matters, as well as the unrest prevailing in the country's agricultural and coastal shipping industries, as farmers insist on their action on blockading some of the country's main roads and seamen are still on a 48-hour strike ending early on Saturday morning. The meeting was attended by Finance minister Yannis Stournaras, deputy Finance minister Christos Staikouras, Development minister Kostis Hatzidakis, Labour minister Giannis Vroutsis and Merchant Marine minister Kostas Mousouroulis.

In statements after the end of the meeting, Stournaras said the agenda included the course of the economy and the country's commitments against its international creditors to be observed in the coming period.

As far as protesting farmers demands are concerned, Stournaras stressed that intensified efforts will be made in a tight fiscal environment to resolve agricultural issues. Referring to the burning issue of taxation on real estate, the finance minister said that no final decisions have been taken so far. (AMNA)
