Investigation Into Banks Who Gave Out Loans To Greek Oligarch

Prosecutor Popi Papandreou apparently wrote to the Hellenic Banking Association on Thursday asking for the details of the bank employees who approved loans to heavily indebted companies belonging to businessman Yiannis Karouzos and his wife, Revekka Skaftoura.

Karouzos, active in the construction sector, was arrested in December over debts to the state. Interestingly, a report in Kathimerini said that his group of companies is estimated to have borrowed some 300 million Euros and the Greek prosecutor wants to establish whether any laws were broken when Karouzos received these loans.

A separate report on Euro2Day said that the Greek prosecutor asked for a list of all the bank executives who were involved in these loans in all the stages of the borrowing.
