The infant that was transferred from Leros to the University Hospital of Heraklion with symptoms of starvation unfortunately left its last breath on Tuesday. The doctors said that the infant died from multi organ failure. The tragedy began to unfold last Saturday when a pediatrician from the Leros Hospital sounded an alarm over an infant that was showing symptoms of hypothermia and dyspnea. The infant, whose condition was very critical, was immediately transferred via helicopter to the hospital in Crete where physicians battled against the clock to save its life, but its little soul gave in.
The baby was born on December 15 and weighed at about 3.5 pounds. But during a thorough medical examination it was discovered that its weight was no more than 3 kg. In other words, the baby was being starved. Reports are also claiming that the child's body was covered in sores with pus, while the little boy was also suffering from a bad rash and had not been bathed for days.
The baby's 24 year old mother is currently being investigated for negligence.
