Nimetz In Athens For FYROM Issue

As if enough isn't happening in Greece already! Matthew Nimetz, the UN secretary general's personal envoy on the FYROM issue was in Athens on Wednesday to convey his ideas and proposals for achieving a mutually acceptable solution on the FYROM issue. He will do the same in FYROM on Thursday. The envoy held a meeting with Foreign Minister Dimitris Avramopoulos and a brief discussion with Prime Minister Antonis Samaras.

In his brief discussion with Samaras Nimetz expressed his content of the progress made so far and noted  the frankness of the Greek stance. He said the prospect of intensification of the talks was being examined, adding that a Greek proposal for the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation "is on the table" and was a "substantial contribution".

On his part, Avramopoulos expressed the Greek side's readiness to participate actively and constructively in the next steps in the process.
