Happy New Year - DEH Raises Rates

As if Greeks didn't have enough to pay already! There is good news and there is bad news. The good news is that we are not going to be slapped with tax hikes of 49 percent on our electricity bills as some might of though before we ushered in the New Year, nonetheless the bad news is that Public Power Organisation (PPC - DEH) decided to hike its rates by 8.6 - 9.2 percent only adding more burden to already suffering Greeks. The new tax hikes are effective as of January 1 and those who do not pay their bills on time, or within a certain period will have their electricity cut off defacto.

In an announcement on Sunday the Environment, Climate Change and Energy Ministry said that industry and commercial rates have also increased by 10-12  percent. Moreover, the announcement said that further increases on bills may be applied in the first six months of 2013, ahead of the rates' deregulation going into effect from June 1.

And if that wasn't enough, as of January 1, a Renewable Energy Sources tax of 9 percent has also been added to all bills.

Happy New Year folks... !!!
