IPDATE 21:00 - Foreign Ministry spokesman Gregory Delavekouras stated the following in response to journalists’ questions on statements attributed to Turkish Prime Minister T. Erdogan regarding the status of Muslim preachers in Thrace:
“If the alleged statements of the Turkish Prime Minister to his party’s Parliamentary Group are reported accurately, I would like to note that the issues concerning the Muslim minority in Thrace are handled responsibly by the Greek State, within the framework of equality before the law and the free exercising of the minority’s religious rights. This is reaffirmed by the Hellenic Parliament’s recent decision. The Greek State always conducts itself with respect for International Conventions and human rights. Such statements do anything but help the climate in our bilateral relations.”

We have to tip our hats to Turkey, when it comes to diplomatic finesse, they indeed are experts. One such "provocative" yet clever move by Ankara involves Tuesday's meeting between Prime Minister Antonis Samaras and his Turkish counterpart T. Erdogan in Qatar. Indeed discussions centered on investment, the subject of Greece's EEZ, bla, bla, bla, but it was also reported that Ankara proposed financing the construction of a Mosque in Athens to the Greek premier.

If you have been following HellasFrappe over the past two years, then you automatically know that Turkey doesn't throw something on the table out of goodwill, there is always a strategy behind everything it says and does in regards to Greece. That is why we don't really buy the charm, which Erdogan obviously has, but see beyond the cloud of dust into Turkey's real intentions.

Ankara knows that the Muslims in Greece right now outnumber those in Thrace and visions of the Ottoman Empire and sugar plums are dancing in their heads. Obviously a Mosque must be constructed, because citizens of Muslim faith need a religious corner in order to practise their faith.

We agree that its a generous offer -and would take the burden off Greek taxpayers- but it has broader intentions and we believe that these coincide with Turkey's policy towards Greece which is attempting to control all the Islamist elements that have illegally invaded our country. An invasion, that was obviously known (and maybe even orchestrated) by Turkish authorities who worked together with smugglers and human trafficking rings all these years sending hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants to Greece. And all this of course... Under the incredible indifference, tragic arrogance and treacherous attitude of the Greek State.

If you begin adding up the numbers then you will be amazed. Already some150,000 Muslims live in Thrace, half of which have been brainwashed and manipulated for ever by the Turkish Consulate in Komotini. Then there are over one million Muslims scattered all over the country! This makes for 10 percent, give or take, of the general population.Shocking when you think about it huh?

By displaying its generosity, Ankara hopes to win over this population, and then obviously manipulate it to do its bidding. Also, they will begin associating their Muslim faith with Turkey and thus Erdogan's offer will have a double whammy effect. Turkification via religion!

Maybe this is just the thought of someone who believes in conspiracies, but think about it for a bit. It would be very difficult for Greek authorities to handle a crisis in the Aegean for example, and at the same time bring normality on a possible chaotic crisis in the heart of the Greek capital. Wouldn't it?

Erdogan, who also supposedly went to Qatar to also attract investment, met with Samaras for about 40 minutes. The details of the meeting are not really known because it was held behind closed doors, but a report on defencenet on Wednesday said that Erdogan spoke of the Muslims in Thrace, the acquisition of real estate by the Muslim minority, and the Greek government's recent adoption of a new education law that prevents Turkey from appointing Imams to teach the quran to young Greek Muslims, but rather gives the power to the Greek State to do so. Basically the law would eliminate Turkey's geopolitical strategy in the area which wants to Turkify the Muslim population there by making them link religion with ethnicity.

Speaking about the new education law, the  Vice-President of the Turkish government, Mr. Bulent Arinc, spoke about the possible reopening of the Theological School of Halki, hoping that this would persuade -or rather pressure- Greek authorities to recall the recent amendment passed by the Greek Parliament appointing imams to Muslim schools in Thrace!

In fact, the Turkish Vice President did not even hesitate to propose that the law should be returned to Greek President of the Republic Karolos Papoulias for approval, thus ignoring the Greek Parliament! What does he expect? Papoulias to denounce it? (Lol... good one!)

Our opinion is simple: Turkey should attend to its own matters, and not interfere in Greece's internal political affairs!

We demand that the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs give Mr. Arinc a "proper" reply!
