Τalk about a cat fight. The Greek Parliament was set ablaze on Tuesday when several female MPs began growling at each other and then began chasing Rachel Makris from the Independent Greeks party down the halls of the Greek Parliament in defense of conservative MP Sofia Voultepsi. According to reports, Makris offended the memory of Voultepsi's father and thus triggered a war of words in the Greek parliament that if joined with a tub of jello would have probably been an enjoyable scene for their male colleagues.
The fight began when spokesman for the Independent Greeks party Terence Quick asked to take the stand from the presiding parliamentary speaker Thanassis Nakos. The motion was denied, and Mrs. Makris decided to step in to defend Mr. Quick which triggered a nerve (for unknown reasons) in Sofia Voultepsi who is a parliamentary spokesman for the New Democracy party.
The unprecedented dialogue that followed... Speaks for itself:
Voultepsi: "Hey Terrence, we are here as well. Why are you acting this way? "Witnessing the "cat fight" were DIMAR representative Asimina Xirotyri and SYRIZA MP Dimitris Anagnostakis and they began moving toward Makris screaming "shame on you, (John) Voultepsis was a leftist while you are (nothing more than a) junta." Anagnostakis even went in a frenzy and began demanding that Terence Quick "shut her up".
Makris: "What are you saying Mori (it means you dirt bag), that you are here as well?"
Voultepsi: "I am here and everyone knows me. Where did you spring up from?"
Makris: "I grew up in Salonika. We know where your from and how you were raised and who your father was."
Voultepsi: "Who my father was?"
Makris: "If you don't know, then allow me to teach you who he was."
Voultepsi: "Aei sichtir re paliotsokaro" (which basically means go fly a kite you white piece of trash)
The scene prompted Mrs. Makris to abandon everyone and basically run out of the Parliament screaming.
And here is where it gets even more hysterical, while she was running out, the voices from the DIMAR, SYRIZA and conservative MPs began chasing her down the halls. Some MPs from the conservative campground even began openly shouting that some members of Panos Kammenos' Independent Greek Party need psychiatric therapy.
In all seriousness, the tension was so intense, that Sophia Voultepsi later broke into tears at the Parliament Cafe. A short while later, Terence Quick, on behalf of Kammenos, literally ignored his colleague Mrs. Makris and telephoned Sofia Voultepsi to apologize for all the inconvenience.
