Lavrentis Lavrentiadis, the main shareholder of Proton Bank, was arrested in his home in Vouliagmeni on Thursday, following an order by the Greek prosecution. The prosecution is currently investigating the -so-called- Proton Bank scandal which involves the alleged transfer of hundreds of millions of Euros in bad loans from the bank to Lavrentiadis’s group of companies. After hearing his testimony, the prosecution issued an immediate warrant for his arrest fearing that he would flee the country.
One day earlier, and specifically on Wednesday, the Athens court of first instance called for the seizure of his assets as well as those of 29 of his former associates. The ruling upheld an appeal lodged by the bank’s shareholders, who claim to have suffered massive losses due to the activities of Lavrentiadis and his associates.
