A new political party titled the Radical Social Democratic Alliance Movement RI.K.S.SY was announced by former Minister of Health Andreas Loverdos on Monday, who has now decided to detach himself from the once ruling socialist PASOK party. The news, which was published on Loverdos' personal website, enraged present PASOK leader Evangelos Venizelos so much that he immediately expelled Loverdos from PASOK. The PASOK party is already sitting on a bed of nails, while its popularity is at the lowest point it ever was in all of its history. Loverdos, says he decided to take this initiative because he felt Greece needed a "modern European party" to express the center-left. Loverdos was a leading PASOK cadre and at some point, some analysts also believed that he would be a good successor to George Papandreou, a seat that was later taken over by his rival (and at one point good friend) Evangelos Venizelos.
Editor's Note - We here at HellasFrappe do not buy into all of this drama. We know Loverdos is an opportunist, but we really believe that its just dust in our eyes to suck up votes from the radical left SYRIZA party as well as attract center-left and center-right votes, something which the socialists need to stay alive!
