Greek Astrophysicist Receives Prestigious FEM Award

Greek astrophysicist Athena Coustenis was among nine women receiving the France Euro MediterranĂ©e (FEM) award for female excellence. The Reussite au Feminin awards were presented during an event on November 29, at he French Senate building, in Paris, by Senate Vice-President Bariza Khiari. Coustenis, who specialises in planetology, is a research director at the CNRS, the French national centre for scientific research. She is considered an authority on Titan, Saturn’s largest satellite, and a scientific adviser for NASA and the European Space Agency (ESA).

At the award ceremony, Coustenis issued an appeal for the protection of the planet against the ravages of climate change, stressing its unique position in the solar system and warning that the atmosphere could one day become like that of Mars or Venus if the world continued its present course.(Greeknewsagenda)
