Shocking but true. At a time when Greek households are already experiencing tremendous difficulties in making ends meet, and when more than 3 million people are living below the poverty line, the Greek Power Corporation (PPC or DEH) is apparently planning to raise households' electricity rates by anywhere from 14.5-48.7 percent. At the same time, press reports are saying that DEH also plans to put a freeze on a social household rate, a special rate for families with more than three children as well as to change the scale of energy charges.
Incredibly, DEH submitted its proposals to the State energy watchdog and asked for a trade weighted increase in rates of 24.9 percent next year as well as to implement this new price policy in three stages: 10.8 percent on January 1, 6.3 percent on May 1 and 6.1 percent on July 1 when electricity rates will be fully liberalized.
Editor - Kind of makes you wonder why unions exist. We wonder, what is Mr. Fotopoulos' view about this latest development? E? After all he doesn't want the power company to be privatized because his argument is that it would hike rates. What do you call this? Why so much silence from the unions? You idiotic bunch of wannabe's....
