The largest Greek flag ever was apparently hoisted at the port of Thessaloniki as part of the celebrations marking the 100th anniversary of the city's liberation from Ottoman Rule. The flag was donated to the municipality of Didimoticho by Zissis Chrysochoou. It measures roughly 480 square meters (or 17.46 meters by 27.52 meters) and weighs a whopping 130 kilos. Interestingly, the flag which has already been registered in the Guinness Book of Records as being the largest national flag in the world, was donated to the municipality of Didimoticho in 1998 for the celebrations marking the northeastern Greek town's liberation.
