Probe Against George Papandreou One Step Before Entering Parliament

The results of the investigation conducted by financial crimes prosecutors Grigoris Peponis and Spyros Mouzakitis -linked directly to the statements made by Greece's former representative to the IMF, Panagiotis Roumeliotis- were given to Supreme Court chief prosecutor Ioannis Tendes, a mandatory step before an official probe begins in the Greek Parliament. His testimony is regarded as being vital and according to initial assessments it paved the way for a preliminary investigation against officials under the Papandreou government who are suspected of committing a breach of faith at the expense of the Greek state, as well as other related offenses to the economy.

The Greek Parliament is now obligated to investigate all aspects of the case, and probe into possible (criminal) responsibilities regarding Greece's economy during George Papandreou's rule in government.

Roumeliotis was grilled by the dynamic duo in late August. Following his testimony the two (VERY BRAVE) financial prosecutors wanted to continue with the investigation, but the mere reference of former prime minister George Papandreou by the first witness (Roumeliotis) automatically sends the case straight to Parliament, thereby commencing a more wide-ranging investigation over the causes of the blistering Greek economic crisis.

Roumeliotis was quoted as telling the "New York Times" in late July 2012 in an interview that "... we knew at the fund (IMF) from the very beginning that this program was impossible to be implemented because we didn't have any (?) successful examples." He reportedly said that this observation drew the reaction of then prime minister George Papandreou.

Testimony claimed that associates of Papandreou failed to notify anyone in this respect. Papandreou is also reportedly cited as not even raising this particular point when the relevant discussions were being held between the IMF and Greece, as he was obliged to do.
