Filled Under: LOCAL NEWS, PROPHECIES / SPIRITUAL MSGS
A man was arrested at the weekend for designing a Facebook page that contained blasphemy and insulting remarks against Elder Paisios and Orthodox Christianity, who many Christians across the world hold in high regard. Reports allege that the 27-year-old set up a Facebook page referring to the late Elder Paisios by the mocking his name and calling him "Geron Pastitsios", (a Greek pasta casserole dish). In a screenshot of the Facebook page, which has now been removed from the social network, the monk was shown with a plate of pastitsio in front of him.
Luckily authorities tracked him down on the island of Evia following complaints that were received by the Greek police's cyber crime bureau. Police officials also confiscated his laptop and discovered that he was indeed the person who had created and managed this insulting page. He could now face a fine of up to 3,000 Euros or two years in prison under Greece's strict blasphemy laws.
In case you are wondering who Elder Paisios was, the only word to describe him is "serenity", or "tranquility". Elder Paisios of Mount Athos (1924–1994), was a well-known Eastern Orthodox monk from Farasa, Cappadocia who is held in high regard by Orthodox Christians. He is famous for his spiritual teachings and especially his prophesies about the coming of the times. (Parts of this article were translated by HF from iefimerida)
