Euronews, Europe’s multilingual news channel has announced that it is creating a Greek edition branch that will present news for the Greek-speaking audience in Greece and Cyprus. At a press conference held in Athens, Euronews managing director Michael Peters announced that the new channel will be broadcasting 24/7 from Athens as of December this year. Greek is thus becoming the 12th simultaneously broadcast language of the international news channel that covers European news. The funding for the project will come from the parent company and the European Commission, while the channel is expected to become self-funded within five years of operation. Greek state television ERT and Cypriot state TV have both granted the frequencies for the establishment of the Greek edition of the European media free of charge.
