Two Greeks, aged 29 and 41, who are suspected of belonging to the extreme left, were arrested at the Piraeus port on Saturday by the counter-terrorism agency. The assailants where preparing to depart to an unknown destination.
European arrest warrants, as well as an Interpol Red Notice, had been issued against both assailaints for the murder of five people several days ago in Ayia Napa, Cyprus.
More precisely, three Cypriots and two Romanians were killed after their automobile was literally sprayed with bullets on a side-street off Ayia Napa’s busy nightclub scene on June 23rd. Police reports said that four of the men worked as security guards for Famagusta businessman Phanos Kalopsidiotis, who was arrested along with six other people in connection with a massive brawl that took place before the crime outside a nightclub in the popular resort.
Press reports said that one of the assailants (the 41-year old) is not a stranger to crime, he was arrested in 2007 for drug trafficking and on July 16, 2010 and with the help of another eleven suspects he was once again arrested for trafficking cocaine from Italy. A report on defencenet said that he has also been arrested in Berlin, Germany in G8 riots and usually runs with leftist anarchist groups.
On the other hand the 29 year old was arrested on November 17, 2010 for participating with other anarchists at the riots that sparked after the commemoration of the Polytechnic University (or Polytechnic uprising), and he has repeatedly also taken part in other riots as well.
