Copper Bandits Loot Cemetery On Kalymnos

Another cemetery was desecrated by "cooper bandits" who ravage the graves of the dead for copper candlesticks. This time they hit the island of Kalymnos and its biggest cemetery. People who wanted to pay their respects to their loved ones were shocked and horrified a couple of days ago when they visited the cemetery of the Virgin Mary Limniotissas in the Chora (main town) and discovered that it was completely looted and vandalized.

According to authorities, the assailants had dismantled more than 40 lamps with the purpose of stealing the copper they contained thus causing extensive damage to the graves.

The oil lamps are estimated at about 60 euros each, and the bandits will sell the copper for about 3.5 euros a kilo on the black market.
