Samaras: Greece must remain in euro

Greece must remain in the euro and benefit from the changes appearing on the horizon in Europe, New Democracy (ND) leader Antonis Samaras said on Monday after a meeting with caretaker prime minister Panagiotis Pikrammenos, who is holding separate talks throughout the day with political party leaders ahead of an EU summit on Wednesday. Samaras said that over the last two years he had been alone in advocating what the European leaders are saying today, namely the need for the issue of a euro-bond, an investment bond, but also recovery measures instead of one-sided austerity. "Now that Europe is changing, we must remain in the euro in order to benefit," Samaras said, adding that he told the caretaker prime minister that Greece must move in that direction. (AMNA)
