Local residents and friends of the Spitalia village near Limassol raised the largest Greek flag to date at the weekend and it now is waving proudly for the whole world to see.
In commemoration to the heroes of April 1, 1955-59, the community Spitalia raised the 22.5 x 37.5 meters flag in the courtyard of Saint Anna Church. The flag covers an area of 843.75 square meters and weighs approximately 110 pounds!
The celebrations in Spitalia began the morning with a memorial commemorating the fallen and then a team of commando reservists carried a ritual flame to the Castle of Fassoulas.
