In commemoration to the heroes of April 1, 1955-59, the community Spitalia raised the 22.5 x 37.5 meters flag in the courtyard of Saint Anna Church. The flag covers an area of 843.75 square meters and weighs approximately 110 pounds!

The celebrations in Spitalia began the morning with a memorial commemorating the fallen and then a team of commando reservists carried a ritual flame to the Castle of Fassoulas.
