In the framework of preventing a former army base of being used as Greece's first major detention center for illegal immigrants, the residents of Kozani on Friday took action and began erecting barricades around their area. More exactly, residents from the town of Neapoli, approximately 40 kilometers from the Albanian border, announced that they are going to man the roadblocks around the clock to prevent construction crews from starting work. The center is set to house some 1,000 illegal immigrants.
