Filled Under: PASOK, POLITICS
If this next bit of news does not have you laughing hysterically then we do not know what will. At a joint meeting of the Committee on Economic and Foreign Affairs concerning the issue of war reparations owed by Germany to Greece as a result of WWII, and the atrocities committed by the Nazis in our country, it was revealed that the dossier that contained vital information on this issue has miraculously been lost!
Led by independent MP Panayiotis Kouroublis, 38 deputies asked for a committee to be formed to demand reparations. Foreign Minister Stavros Dimas, Finance Minister Filippos Sachinidis and Justice Minister Miltiadis Papaioannou responded to questions from MPs who sit on three parliamentary committees. The ministers revealed that no government official has examined the issue of reparations for the last two decades.
And if that is not enough, the Bank of Greece holds the Ministry of Economy responsible, while the Greek Ministry of Economy says that the Bank of Greece is responsible.
Obviously in their cowardliness to face the issue, or in their attempt to "coverit all up" the regime of PASOK led Lucas Papademos and company are now claiming that they have somehow lost the file!
Wait there is more!
When questioned by the MPs at the meeting, newly appointed Minister of Finance Filippos Sachinidis said that while looking for the file in Division 25 of the Ministry, he was informed by Ministry officials that no one has bothered to ask for it for over two decades now and they were not very clear on just where the dossier might be!
Is this a western country or is this a scene in BORAT?
The deputies proposed that a panel of lawmakers pressure Germany over the matter.
According to estimates from the Bank of Greece, the loan given by Greece to Nazi Germany during WWII is today worth 54 billion euros, while damages from the war have been valued at 108 billion and this is without interest. With interest, this figure is set to double!
