Members of PAME, (part of the Greek Communist Party) together with municipal workers from Thessaloniki gathered around the city’s Town Hall just a little while ago shouting negative slogans and heavily criticising the government and its policies when Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou arrived in Greece’s second largest city for a scheduled meeting with the city’s mayor for this year's annual Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF).

Papandreou would meet with Mayor Yiannis Boutaris and an hour later with representatives of productive and social agencies in the same place. Imagine what is going to happen this weekend when Papandreou will give the traditional all-out interview of his government's policy at this year’s TIF.

The inauguration of the 76th TIF will not be carried out by Papandreou but by Regional Development, Competitiveness and Shipping Minister Michalis Chryssohoidis on Saturday morning at the administration building.

Papandreou will be making an address at the TIF's I. Vellidis convention centre at 8 on Saturday night and will be presenting the main directions of the government's economic policy in the coming period.

And because all hell is expected to brake loose this weekend, the prime minister's press conference will not be taking place at the I. Vellidis convention centre as it traditionally does every year, but rather is going to take place at the Storehouse C of the Port Organisation for security reasons.

The Storehouse C area is right next to the coastal highway and located at the entrance of the city and offers security for Papandreou and his ministers since they are isolated by high walls and railings.
