The 2010 Cliff Diving World Series champion, Britain's Gary Hunt, won the third round of this year's World Series held yesterday at Lake Vouliagmeni, southeast of Athens. Hunt, with this first World Series win of the year, moved to the head of the Series. Russia's Artem Silchenko took second place, while the Czech Republic's Michal Navratil came in third, in his first podium finish since 2009.
More than 9,000 spectators took advantage of the warm and sunny weather to attend the keenly-fought competition. According to the state news agency ANA, Hunt dove from the 26.8 meter high platform in the final round with a combination of somersaults and twists that gave him the edge over Silchenko and Navratil. The next stop in the 7-round Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series 2011 is La Rochelle, France, on June 18, while the final will take place in Yalta, the Ukraine.
