Tom Hanks known to carry the Epitaphio every year

Many celebrities of Greek descent, or with a “Greek connection” gather at the Saint Sophia Cathedral for Good Friday’s Liturgy and periphery of Epitaphios to attend the service and this year was no exception. Among the community, was also our PhilHellene friend Tom Hanks, who is there every year, and one of the many men that carry the Epitaphios. Tom was accompanied by his wife, Rita Wilson and her good friend Nia Vardalos. 

According to patrons from Saint Sophia, Tom  Hanks is a very religious man, and attends church almost every day throughout the holy week. Another famous actor said to also carry the Epitaphios along side him is none other than 20th Century Fox CEO Jim Gianopulos. In fact Gianopoulos is so into the Easter holiday that he apparently holds a smash bash private Easter party at his house, with all the traditional Greek trimmings.
