Commemoration of the genocide of Greeks in Thrace today in front of the UN

Good luck to the Pan Thracian Union of America, which at noon today is organising a commemoration to mark the genocide in the last century of Greeks in Eastern Thrace, Constantinople, Imvros and Tenedos. I urge all who are in or around the vicinity of New York City to go to the United Nations and take part in this crucial and important event.

The descendants of the Greeks of Thrace, who now live in Greece and throughout the world, are entering their third and fourth generation as descendants of Genocide survivors. A commemoration held every year, over the past four years is staged in result of a new effort in recent years to tell survivor stories and speak out about the Genocide, and further, to demand justice from Turkey – the perpetrator of the Genocide that resulted in the death of the many millions of Greeks, Assyrians and Armenians who were the original indigenous people of the entire land mass of Asia Minor and Thrace.

We must never forget our history dear friends.

The Ottomans slaughtered many races of people in all the lands they illegally and unjustly conquered. There is no history about Ottomans which has not been written in blood. In the Turkey, ancient Greek and Armenian towns have totally been destroyed and have thus vanished without a trace, ancient churches have been transformed into stables, and/or museums where fashion shows are held or have even been converted into mosques.

Indeed, Armenians suffered more than Greeks, for the simple reason that there were more of them to slaughter in the killing fields of Anatolia. The mention of a Turk is sufficient to raise anyone's hackles and more aggravation and hate is generated when we observe those nations and races that support and embrace the genocidal Turk with alliances, pacts, and other treaties. These nations are accomplices to the crimes of Turkey, and they deserve the maximum scorn and opprobrium for their aid and comfort to a murderous race.

In reaction to two hundred years of humiliating military defeats, foreign domination and retrenchment of the Ottoman empire, Turkish nationalists from 1914 onwards embarked on a campaign to physically exterminate all non-Turkish/Muslim elements from Anatolia, Asia Minor and Thrace. Just like the Nazis blamed the Jews for Germany's defeat in the First World War, so the Young Turks attributed the prostration of the Ottoman empire to the 'minorities'. The outcome was the genocide of Armenians, Greeks and Assyrians. Modern Turkey was founded on genocide, its leaders were men who supported and committed genocide, the country's national ideology justified and is steeped in genocide. The Greek Genocide in Asia Minor, Eastern Thrace and Pontos, the pogroms in Constantinople, ethnic cleansing in Imvros and Tenedos and the Turkish invasion and occupation of Cyprus, are all a result of the genocidal ideology that underpins post-Ottoman Turkey and is still a prominent feature of that country's makeup.

This year’s commemoration is organized and hosted by Panthracian Union of America ‘Orpheus’ and supported by the Hellenic League of America, HLA, and will feature  such guest speakers as two time New York Times bestselling Author and Director of Jihad Watch.org, Robert Spencer; Editor and Publisher of Atlas Shrugs and Executive Director of Freedom Defense Initiative and Stop Islamization of America, Pamela Geller; First Vice-President of the International Association of Genocide Scholars, Professor Alex Hinton; President of the Federation of Hellenic Societies of Greater New York, Elias Tsekerides and  President of the PanPontian Federation of USA and Canada, Dimitris Molohides.

Ralph Bunche Park is located on the northwest corner of 1st Ave and 42nd Street. For more information please contact former Panthracian President and HLA Spokesman Ioannis Fidanakis.
