17 Year Old Greek student wins the First prize Of Young Scientists in Engineering

Congratulations to 17 year-old Charalampos Ioannou, a Greek student who won first prize at this year's European Union Contest for Young Scientists. His scientific field was engineering and his project entitled ‘Device which enhances and supports the movement of the human palm’

The European Union Contest for Young Scientists (EUCYS) is an initiative created by the European Commission in 1989 with a goal of promoting the science interchange between young scientists and guiding them to a future in science and technology. The event is an annual contest and exhibition of the finest work developed in many scientific fields; the best young minds of different countries can compare ideas and admire each other's work.

After being awarded with the first prize, Charalampos said his goal was to construct a device that will support and assist the movement of the human hand. "In order to achieve this, we need to detect the force that one applies to an object, by the use of pressure sensors. After this, a processing system will process the received data from the sensors and according to the values received; it will move respectively servo motors, which are installed in an exoskeletal metal glove. The strength of the operator is enhanced in this way."

Bravo Palikari mou... Athanatoi Ellada!
