Kassidiaris New Golden Dawn Leader, Or Plan By The Establishment To Crush The Party?

So far all the events that led to the persecution of Golden Dawn have crumbled, and although the party began to suffer the repercussions in the first few days (as witnessed in the polls), it is now slowly rising in popularity again. This has worried the establishment greatly and that is one of the reasons we believe that they are moving on to Plan C. In fact, Plan C began to unfold on Sunday in an exclusive report in the RealNews newspaper. According to the author there are two fronts in the Golden Dawn party. One that is more loyal to the party leader Nikos Michaloliakos (hardliners), and one that is loyal to party spokesman Ilias Kassidiaris (softer sort).

If you are shaking your head at this point then wait till we go into details about what this report said. But before we do that, we just have to say that the same people who up until a week ago insulted, verbally attacked and stigmatized this young boy as a "Nazi extremist" or a "dispassionate ferelpi leader" are viewing him as a more "acceptable" leader for the ultra-nationalist party.

Is the establishment that naive? Or does it believe that Golden Dawn is a bourgeois party where it can play a game of "divide and conquer" so as to weaken the party?

Number two of course!

Why so surprised? We have seen this in the past, against many Greek politicians and against various political parties. The establishment always uses the mainstream media to spread propaganda and create a buzz. Once they do that,  and before you know it, some of the mud actually begins sticking to the source they are targeting.

Take for example the issue of Costas Karamanlis, the case of Vatopedi, or even the war in Iraq. In all these cases, the mainstream media was used to spread falsifications and lies so as to change public opinion.

Now they are targeting the Golden Dawn party. But in this case they are ignoring one fundamental thing, the internal structure and code of honor of the nationalist party. With everything that we have read about this party, this cannot be easily broken and/or bruised.

The report in RealNews, as seen at the bottom of the page, says that an anticipated change in GD's leadership might be unfolding now that Nikos Michaloliakos is behind bars. According to the author, Ilias Kassidiaris is a fresh voice, that could alter the image of the Golden Dawn party. And although we agree with what he/she is trying to say, because Kassidiaris is a charismatic and well-educated young man, we can not help but smirk because the intentions of the article are more than obvious. They want to create a rift inside the party, and/or two camps.

So what does the article say: It says that disruptive tendencies, which may possibly lead to the creation of the Golden Dawn ... of the domestic, and international sort are presently manifesting following a clash of differences between Michaloliakos and Kassidiaris. A clash, which the paper notes, peaked following the fatal shootings of two Golden Dawn members in Neo Heraklio two weeks ago.

This friction within GD, adds the article, was apparently noted (among other things) in classified intelligence reports and were given to the Ministry of Public Order, and are the result of intelligence gathering from several officers who began focusing their investigations on GD following the murder of anti-fascist rapper Pavlos Fyssas.

Sorry guys... But we here at HellasFrappe are a little skeptical about this one. Besides, we have witnessed Nikos Hatzinikolaoy work his magic in the past against Costas Karamanlis. Let us not forget that because of reporters like him (or in this case publisher) Karamanlis was discredited in the face of his voters. Also... He is a favorite of the establishment. This alone explains a lot.

Nonetheless if you want to read the report then click on the .pdf link below. Just keep in mind that it is only in the Greek language.

Chaos, Murders of Fyssas & Golden Dawn Members, Intelligence Agencies & The State

The following article was featured in this Sunday's Edition of the Dimokratia newspaper from Savas Kalteridis. Please note that a word for word translation was not feasible because the article would not make sense in English.

On October 18, 2013 Pavlos Fyssas fell dead in Amfiali (Keratsini, Piraeus) at the hand of George Roupakias, who some said was a comrade of the Golden Dawn party. The victim was  a well-known rapper and militant anti-fascist, who expressed his political views and opinions through his music!

The perpetrator, a former Leftist, was a blue-collar worker who had recently jumped to the other side and began embracing the ideologies of the Golden Dawn party in the area of Nikea (Piraeus). The Nikea branch of Golden Dawn aimed to weaken the presence of the Left in the area and specifically the Greek Communist party's PAME group which traditionally had a strong influence in the area (or the neighborhoods of Piraeus B constituency).

So basically the area had two fronts (or two extremes), and they were bound to clash at some point or another. It was just a matter of time. Of course the government knew what was going on, but as with many other things, our lawmakers refused to touch the subject. In fact in the run-up to Fyssas' murder, some believe that the status quo, was rather more concentrated on the popularity of the Golden Dawn party rather than the explosive climate that was brewing in this neighborhood.

At the same time, there was concern, and consequent pressure from international players towards Greece about the gradual increase that the Golden Dawn party was receiving in the polls. (Remeber what the DIMAR MP and former Minister of Justice said about American and EU pressure?)

A few days after Fyssas' tragic death, the degradation of Golden Dawn began, with unprecedented and relentless psychological warfare by the domestic and foreign media, while the party leader and two deputies were apprehended, and actions were taken against other members.

While Golden Dawn was being persecuted, its members were being targeted by self proclaimed anti-fascists and anti-authoritarians, who assumed the role of legislator, judge and executor ...!

And this continued up until two madmen shot and killed in cold blood two young members of the Golden Dawn party, or George Fountouli and Manolis Kapelonis and seriously injured Alexander Gerontas (who incidentally is still in critical condition).

Even when public opinion was left dumbfounded while watching the bloody images of the shootings that were leaked to the media, the political system, as noted earlier, did not adopt the same attitude. In fact it acted swiftly in the case of Pavlos Fyssas whereas in the murder of the GD members our lawmakers were no where to be found. Obviously this violates many principles, including that which says that even enemies that fall to their death are entitled to enjoy some type of honor.

But let us not dwell on what our lawmakers did, or didn't do, even though it just further discredits the whole political system and only increases the popularity of Golden Dawn (because Greeks always innate sympathy to anyone who is wronged or hurt by the system). Let us rather examine the views of those who spoke about the settling of scores, or the engagement of secret services in this obviously tragic crime.

At present there is no evidence that can determine who the executioners are and especially why these murders occurred.

That is why many are convinced that it was carried out by a team of anti-authoritarians because their operational tactics are well known in Greece and have been for four decades now. In fact, in their world, the assassination of Fyssas is equivalent to the invasion and occupation of Greece from Turkey.  (Believe it)

What do we mean?

If Greece was invaded by Turkey tomorrow morning, the Greek army would act swiftly and without a second thought, because their obligation is to uphold the safety and welfare of all Greeks and Greece in accordance to the Greek constitution. Well anti-authoritarians work in a similar way. They have their own laws and guidelines and feel compelled to intervene at any given moment in the framework of bringing order in their own ranks (or in this case against those that forced the murder of anti-fascist Pavlos Fyssas).

This is basically how the stage was set, from both sides of the coin, but this is also how the road opened to foreign intelligence services as well.

At this point we should note that foreign intelligence agencies found the right time, and the grounds, to act, while some idiots were busy creating the perfect setting and the right conditions!

Those who speak about the involvement of secret services in this case, should first reflect on their own responsibilities, as well as how they helped to dismantle the state apparatus where partisanship was allowed to destroy even the most sensitive services of the Greek state. Let us not forget that the top priority of these services is to prevent such actions from foreign intelligence services in Greece.

Golden Dawn: Hysteria, Hatred & 2 Inevitable Murders

This is a great mini-analysis from our friends at hellenicantidote. We just had to re-publish the article because the author is totally, and without a doubt spot on!

(HellenicAntidote) - It is no surprise that the hysteria and hatred directed at Golden Dawn, the attempt to categorise it as a criminal organisation and demonise and humiliate its members, in a country that has for forty years tolerated left-wing brutality and violence, in which recent calls for the ‘hanging of fascists’ were deemed legitimate, was going to result in the incident in Athens that saw leftist terrorists shoot to death two Golden Dawn supporters and seriously injure another.

What nauseating hypocrisy that all those politicians and journalists who were last month jumping for joy at the arrest and incarceration of leading Golden Dawn figures, creating an atmosphere of loathing, polarisation and dehumanisation, now have the audacity to plead for national unity and calm.

Last month’s state crackdown on Golden Dawn on trumped up charges designed to drive it from the political scene was never going to succeed so long as the reasons for Golden Dawn’s emergence remained unaddressed and now, with this predictable attack by leftist terrorists on Golden Dawn, we have a scenario where Golden Dawn, rather than being shown up for what it is – a party with little to contribute to the regeneration of Greece – is again dominating the political limelight, from which it will be able to enhance its public appeal by portraying itself as a victim of a corrupt and dishonest system.

SHAME - Stefanidou Attempts To Defame Dead Golden Dawn Member In Front Of Grieving Father

The following is an interview by Lambros Fountoulis, the father of George Fountoulis who was assassinated last week by a gunman outside of the Golden Dawn offices in Neo Heraklio. The interview is with (former Mrs. Gossip Queen herself) Tatiana Stephanidou (who is also the wife of well-known reporter Nikos Evangelatos). The video is in Greek. Special attention should be focused on Tatiana since she is obviously being coached on what to say and ask. The trouble is, she attempts to downplay the tragic death of George Fountoulis and believe it or not she even openly tries to defame this young boy -because of his beliefs- all the face of the boy's grieving father! No sentiment at all. Totally sickening. In fact it is so insulting that it made our hair crawl here at HellasFrappe when we viewed it. HellasFrappe recently lost the co-founder of this blog, and our Editor Marina, who was his companion and confident has yet to recover from this loss, We cannot begin to imagine what this father must of felt when he found out that his child was suddenly and abruptly shot dead because of his political beliefs. Shame on her and shame to all who have double standards when it comes to deaths. We did not hear such statements when Pavlos Fyssas died. That death, was just as tragic as the death of these two boys. If the establishment, which she obviously is a big part of, only knows how to use blind and violent strikes such as these to defeat ideas, then they are really wrong. (This includes strikes of every sort from words to actual actions). When will they ever learn that double standards (including mud-slinging, discrediting, and defaming people) cannot kill ideas it just increases them. And for God's sakes... has she no decency? This is a grieving man and she is trying to achieve what? This by far is Greek trash tv at its very best. Shame...

SHOCK - Secret Poll Puts Golden Dawn in First Place

By John Ward (The Slog) - A regular source late on Monday night informed the Slog with updated opinion/voting behaviour research carried out secretly by senior political players in Greece. Astonishingly, the study has the Far Right Golden Dawn Party in first place, followed closely by the Leftist Party SYRIZA.

As predicted by the Slog last month, the attempt by Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras to frame the far-right Golden Dawn party in the case of the murder of a young Leftist has backfired. The last poll from this source had GD in 2nd place. The Party has now taken over the top spot.

Between 25-29th of October, 1,423 Greeks were polled about their voting intentions. Golden Dawn scored 22%, followed very closely by SYRIZA. New Democracy (the governing Party in Coalition with PASOK) came a very poor third. Men and older respondents are significantly more likely to vote Golden Dawn than women and the young.

Two Golden Dawn members were murdered last week, after the Poll took place. It is likely that this will have strengthened rather than weakened sympathy among traditional Greeks for the Far Right Party.

The author of the Slog has been traveling into, out of, and around Greece since last March. While the author says he is surprised by the size of the Golden Dawn revival, he is not remotely surprised by the confrontation now boiling up between the Hard Left and the Hard Right. Middle class and skilled working class Greeks talk openly about the possibility of Civil War and/or a military putsch. Senior professional and other well-off Greeks still seem to be living in a bubble – as are the bureaucratic and political classes.

According to him, the country is heading towards a classic reversion to the extreme, caused by an economic crisis massively exacerbated by Brussels-am-Berlin austerity obsession. The support for Golden Dawn has jumped further since EC commissioner Olli Rehn admitted late last month that debt relief for Greece was to be delayed. The west European and US mainstream media may have lost interest in Greece, but they need to reverse that apathy with all speed.

What Do Anarchists & George Soros Have In Common? Indymedia & The Extinction of Golden Dawn

DAVOS/SWITZERLAND, 27JAN10 - George Soros, Cha...

Indymedia is the Independent Media Center (or IMC). It is a global participatory (anarchist) network that reports on political and social issues. The Greek chapter is also well known for publishing statements made by terrorist organizations, and believe it or not it overtly applauds violence as a political tactic. The site is also known as a paramilitary website, which apparently encourages hatred against anything and any one that is considered conservative, liberal or basically tips towards the Right (in other words anyone who is not a Leftist is targeted). As such the website follows the movement of the Golden Dawn party as well as many other ordinary people who make (or have made), the mistake of expressing Greek nationalist ideals.
Who detests Greek nationalist ideals? Or nationalist ideals in general?
Aside from Kissinger, there is always George Soros.
Indymedia is funded by the Tides Foundation, which supports a slew of radical leftist organizations, and which has received millions in donations from George Soros’ Open Society Institute.
Quite strangely, last Friday, and while two gunmen shot and killed two Golden Dawn members in cold-blood, the Administrators of the Greek chapter of Indymedia took their website offline, or at least this is what one report on defencenet said. The question is obviously why did the site suddenly go down?
Were the Administrators trying to hide something? Do they know something about the murders? No one knows, but certainly it is suspicious. Maybe, just maybe authorities should open an investigation...  Just a thought. - HellasFrappe

The following is a conversation of two anarchists that was featured on the thattimehascome website and featured several years ago. Read what they say to each other, and then draw your own conclusions.

Adamantios on the Serb-Hellenic forum writes:  They are anarchists, as stated previously, not liberals. When I say they are "agents of the West" I mean that they are organized, funded, and directed to do the West's bidding. The majority of these individuals are misguided and confused reactionary extremists of the leftist persuasion who believe they are somehow fighting against capitalism, imperialism, or "the system" by attacking anything remotely nationalistic or religious. In reality, however, they are fighting for capitalism, imperialism, and the political establishment without realizing it.

It is precisely religion and nationalism that defends the nation from these things and, therefore, by attacking them the anarchist groups are attempting to weaken the only true defense that exists against globalization. If one examines how ultra-liberals like George Soros operate, one will quickly see that, despite their economic-ideological differences with the left, that the left is a very useful ally to their globalization agenda: leftists, who have shed national and religious loyalties, make the greatest converts to the capitalist cause when communism collapses as they quickly become steadfast materialists.

In the case of Greece, communism never rose to power so the strategy is a little bit different: instead of recruiting former communists into the liberal/capitalist camp, they finance anti-national and anti-religious far-leftist groups. After all, they understand that, like the communist experience has shown, the far-left collapses easily, often without even a fight. Nationalism and religion don't and require ceaseless violent persecution for the smallest effect to be gained -- something a liberal democratic political establishment can't freely do but a far-left fringe is more than willing to do. That's where anarchists come in. Controlling them is easy and there is evidence that the Greek political establishment has infiltrated their ranks with police officers and possibly with intelligence agents who influence the group's actions.

Regarding this incident, don't you think it odd that an anarchist group made up of individuals who don't work could somehow have the resources to create and print thousands of professional-quality fliers and plaster them all over major cities?

User Snake Logan asks: So how do you fight those kind of people? Usually you can weaken a group by revealing their ideals as fraud but anarchists have no ideals. Do you propose some kind of rightwing coalition? No, I am opposed to the political right as much as I am opposed to the political left. In truth, they are just two sides of the same coin. The right has done great damage to the nationalist cause by, at times, posing as a representative of nationalism and, by extension, giving nationalism a bad name through this false association. In addition, the right had resulted in creating an ideological obstruction in the minds of right-wing nationalists, in effect preventing any sort of radical and revolutionary nationalist thinking.

As such, it is necessary for radical nationalists to extricate right-wing nationalists from the political right by converting them to a revolutionary nationalism. This, too, must be done with left-wing nationalists who may very well be easier to convert given their tradition of quasi-radical thought. (I say "quasi-radical" instead of radical because the left is just as reactionary as the right; despite that, some of their ideas may be genuinely radical.)

The result of this, aside from healing old wounds caused by the alien left-right ideological spectrum, will create a strong front. The participation of both former rightists and former leftists will be very helpful in not only recruiting nationalists from those ideological grounds but will also help create a wider appeal. The groundwork for this front already exists as some leftists have realized that only nationalism stands in the way of globalization. It's only a matter of convincing right-wing and left-wing sympathizers to abandon their foreign belief systems for something organic.

Leftists Call Kranidiotis A Fascist Because He Has The B***lls To Tell It Like It Is (VIDEO)

On Monday night's e-nikos news show, which was broadcasted on Star Channel, Falios Kranidiotis (a very close associate of Antonis Samaras) really said it like it is. The table discussion was about Golden Dawn (what else is new) and Kranidiotis said it like it is. In this video, he is not defending exactly Samaras, but simply saying what any person with half a brain would say about why Golden Dawn is so popular with the people. This of course is not received well by the panel of speakers, most of which are from the Left. This is a MUST WATCH.

NEW SCANDAL - Did Papantoniou Fly Off To Brazil To Avoid Justice Days Before Being Summoned?

credit newsbomb
While the world concentrates on the bloody cold blooded murders of two Golden Dawn members, the establishment once again worked its magic to save one of its own. This time it was former PASOK defence minister and minister of economy (under the Costas Simitis government) Yannos Papantoniou, who was apparently being investigated by authorities for money-laundering and tax evasion (also implicated in the Lagarde list). The former PASOK MP apparently boarded a flight and fled the country last Thursday under extreme secrecy in what some reports claim was for health reasons (of course we all know better).

More exactly, a report on olympia and newsbomb said that Papantoniou boarded a flight with Lufthansa and then flew to Munich (or London), and then on to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil just hours before he was set to be summoned by judicial authorities to answer to the US $3.2 million in unaccounted funds that were found in his and his wife's pothen esches report (or the where did you get these funds report), as well as for the handling (and transactions) of well over US $40 million in accounts that the couple held at the HSBC Bank in Geneva.

The former PASOK minister, who is just another GREEN SOCIALIST implicated in yet another crime against the state, apparently flew to Rio de Janeiro on a private jet that is owned by a powerful Greek businessman (and friend).

When the news broke on Monday night, sources close to Papantoniou (obviously of the Simitis and PASOK sort) attempted to downplay this claiming that he made this journey for health reasons. According to them Papantoniou has a severe liver disease and (out of the blue) he decided to fly to Brazil to attend to his health (or basically escape the grips of justice to a country where the law would not be able to easily find him just days before being summoned by Greek authorities to answer to the black funds that were found in his accounts).

Anyone with half a brain would then wonder, how is it possible that someone with such a severe liver disease can fly so many hours and only trust the services of a friend in the Brazilian medical field? Doesn't it sound too surreal? (Of course it does.) Nonetheless we will give them the benefit of the doubt, but we ask, why not rush him off to a Greek hospital, or a specialist in Europe, or even the US?

Why Brazil?

There are too many voices that are convinced that his sudden -and mysterious- departure to Brazil is only because of what competent authorities discovered in his bank accounts last week. Besides the timing is just too incredible. More exactly, last week officials from the Financial Crime squad (SDOE) discovered that the deposits made in Papantoniou's account HSBC in Geneva were not made by remittances from Greek banks, but that these funds were transferred by foreign banks! On top of that, SDOE officials also discovered another account in the bank of Singapore.

His escape days before being summoned only gives "conspiracy" theorists more reason to believe that he did so because he did not want to face questioning. Reports claim that his powerful friends in the corporate world and especially in Brussels banned together once again to help one of their own (just like they have for most of PASOK. Example George Papandreou).

We are convinced that this could be another repeat of the "Christoforakos Escape". In May 2009, Michalis Christoforakos who was the former head of Siemens in Greece, was scheduled to appear before an investigating magistrate that was investigating the Siemens scandal. Just before his escape, Christoforakos had refused to appear at several previous summons and when he was summoned for the last time and refused to once again make an appearance authorities went to look for him and discovered that he had fled Greece and flown off to Germany. The Greek government immediately issued an international arrest warrant but because he also held a German passport he could not be extradited back to Greece to face charges (or arranging vast Siemens bribes to go to Greek parliamentary MPs).

It should be noted that Christoforakis was able to do this because Dora Bakoyianni -an enemy of Costas Karamanlis and a friend to Germany and the Bush Family- was heading the Foreign Ministry. So would it then be safe to assume that because Evangelos the Large is a friend to Germany and heading the foreign ministry that Papantoniou was also able to make a similar escape? Will he suddenly present a passport to Brazil, or Germany too?

No one knows, we will just have to wait and see.

Stay tuned frappers.

Lazio Fans Raise Banners At Match With Genoa In Support Of Golden Dawn

During Sunday's match with Genoa at Stadio Olimpico stadium in Rome, Lazio soccer fans raised banners with reference to the two members of the Golden Dawn party that were murdered in cold-blood last Friday in Neo Heraklio. The banner wrote: "IL tramonto è rosso, l'alba dorata: Manolis e Yorgos presenti» (the sunset is red, but the dawn is golden:  Manolis and George present). It should be noted that a large portion of the fans of Lazio are conservatives, (always have been) while a very small portion tips towards the right. The Jewish communities in Italy, however, condemned the banner, stressing that the fans "used every opportunity to express support for xenophobic, racist, homophobic and anti-Semitic organizations."

American Jewish Committee Condemns Fatal Attack at Golden Dawn Athens Office

The American Jewish Committee (AJC) condemned the killing of two members of the Golden Dawn Party, and the wounding of a third, in a drive-by shooting outside the party’s office in northern Athens last Friday night.
“In a democratic society, taking the law into your own hands is to be categorically rejected,” said AJC Executive Director David Harris.  ‘As much as we steadfastly oppose the Golden Dawn’s vile neo-Nazi ideology and inflammatory tactics, we are dismayed by those who, for whatever reason, would commit acts of murder and attempted murder.”
A Greek government spokesman pledged that the killers would be caught, while all the major Greek political parties spoke out strongly against the attack. The Minister of Public Order, Nikos Dendias, declared that “We will not let the country be turned into a battleground for settling scores of any kind,” even as the Golden Dawn, in a statement after the shooting, blamed him and Prime Minister Antonis Samaras, and their “anti-Greek government,” for the assault.

AJC has visited Greece frequently, stays in close touch with Greek leaders, cooperates with Greek-American organizations, and has an association agreement with the Jewish Community of Greece. On more than one occasion, Golden Dawn has publicly assailed AJC in the form of incendiary language and anti-Semitic imagery

Funerals Of GD Members Today - Families Do Not Want Politicians Present (VIDEOS)

The parents of Giorgos Fountoulis, the 26-year-old who was gunned down outside Golden Dawn offices in Neo Heraklio last Friday night, warned politicians at the weekend to stay away from their son's funeral service on Monday. The funerals of the two Golden Dawn members are going to be held a little after 15:00 Greek time on Monday.

Fountoulis’s family made it clear that politicians from all political parties would not be welcome at the funeral.
“We do not want blood - our son’s blood ran onto the asphalt - nor honor - we are aware of our child’s honorable and impeachable nature,” the parents said in a statement. “Our family does not want any politician from any party to attend the funeral.”
Fountoulis was murdered along with 22-year-old Manolis Kapelonis, whose funeral will also take place on Monday as well.

The third victim, Alexandros Gerontas remains in critical condition after being shot by the two gunmen who opened fire at a group outside Golden Dawn’s offices in the northern Athens suburb of Neo Heraklio last week.

On Saturday a memorial service was held at the spot where the two young GD members died. Thousands of Greek citizens attended the service and with candles in their hands they began to chant the Greek National Anthem.

Communism & The Greek Civil War - The Truth Must Be Told - MUST READ

"We didn't kill enough people." Communist guerrilla leader, Ares Velouchiotes, when queried as to why his EAM-ELLAS forces had been defeated.
What follows has been excerpted (pp. 326 - 331) from The Black Book Of Communism and has to do with the Greek Civil War. The book was written by Stephane Courtois, Nicholas Werth, Jean-Louis Panne, Andrzej Paczkowski, Karel Bartosek, and Jean-Louis Margolin. trans. by Jonathan Murphy and Mark Kramer.

When the [second world] war ended, the Greek Communists were in a situation roughly similar to that of the Yugoslavs. On 2 November 1940, a few days after the Italian invasion of Greece, Nikos Zachariadis, the secretary of the Greek Communist Party (KKE), who had been in prison since 1936, sent out a call to arms:
"The Greek nation is now engaged in a war for its national liberation from the fascism of Mussolini ... Everyone must take his place, and everyone must fight." But on 7 December a manifesto from the underground Central Committee called into question this decision, and the KKE returned to the official line recommended by the Comintern, that of revolutionary defeatism. On 22 June 1941 came the spectacular U-turn: the KKE ordered its militants to organize "the struggle to defend the Soviet Union and the overthrow of the foreign fascist yoke."
The experience with clandestine activity had been crucial for the Communists. On 16 July 1941, like their counterparts in other countries, the Greek Communists formed a National Workers' Front for Liberation (Ergatiko Ethniko Apelevtherotiko Metopo, EEAM), an umbrella organization for three unions. On 27 September they established the EAM (Ethniko Apelevtherotiko Metopo), the Party's political arm. On 10 February 1942 they announced the creation of the People's Army for National Liberation (Ellinikos Laikos Apelevtherotikos [Stratos]), or ELAS. By May 1942 the first ELAS partisans were operating under the leadership of Ares Velouchiotes (Thanassis Klaras), an experienced militant who had signed a recantation in exchange for his freedom. From this point on, ELAS numbers continued to grow.

The ELAS was not the only military resistance movement. The National Greek Democratic Union (Ethnikos Demokratikos Syndesmos), or EDES, had been created by soldiers and republican civilians in September 1941. Another group of resistance fighters was formed by a retired colonel, Napoleon Zervas. A third organization, the National Social Liberation Movement (Ethniki Kai Koinoniki Apelevtherosis), or EKKA, came into being in October 1942 under Colonel Dimitri Psarros. All these organizations were constantly trying to recruit from one another.

But the success and strength of the ELAS made the Communists hopeful of imposing their leadership on all the armed resistance groups. They attacked the EDES partisans several times, as well as the EKKA, who were forced to suspend operations to regroup. In late 1942 Major G. Kostopoulos (a renegade from the EAM) and Colonel Stefanos Sáráfis formed a resistance unit in the heart of a zone that had been captured by the EAM in western Thessaly, at the foot of the Pindus Mountains. The ELAS surrounded them and massacred all those who did not escape or refused to enroll in their ranks. Taken prisoner, Sáráfis finally agreed to assume leadership of the ELAS units.

The presence of British officers who had come to help the Greek resistance was a cause of concern to the ELAS chiefs, who feared that the British would attempt to reinstate the monarchy. But there was a difference in viewpoint between the military branch, directed by Ares Velouchiotes, and the KKE itself. The latter, led by Giorgis Siantos, wished to follow the official line as laid down by Moscow, advocating a general antifascist coalition. The actions of the British were momentarily beneficial because in July 1943 their military mission convinced the three main protagonists to sign a pact. At that time the ELAS had some 18,000 men, the EDES 5,000, and the EKKA about 1000.

The Italian surrender on 8 September 1943 immediately modified the situation. A fratricidal war began when the Germans launched a violent offensive against the EDES. The guerrillas, forced to retreat, confronted several large ELAS battalions, which threatened to annihilate the EDES. The KKE leadership decided to abandon the EDES, hoping thus to check British policy. After four days of fighting, the partisans led by Zervas escaped encirclement.

This civil war within the main war was of great advantage to the Germans as they swept down upon the resistance units one by one. The Allies thus took the initiative to end the civil war. Fighting between the ELAS and the EDES stopped in February 1944, and an agreement was signed in Plaka. The agreement was short-lived; a few weeks later the ELAS attacked Colonel Psarros' EKKA troops. He was defeated after five days and taken prisoner. His officers were massacred; Psarros himself was beheaded.

The Communists' actions demoralized the resistance and discredited the EAM. In several regions, hatred for the EAM was so strong that a number of resistance fighters joined the security battalions set up by the Germans. The civil war did not end until the ELAS agreed to collaborate with the Greek government-in-exile in Cairo. In September 1944 six members of the EAM-ELAS became members of the government of national unity presided over by Georges Papandreou. On 2 September, as the Germans began to evacuate Greece, the ELAS sent its troops to conquer the Peloponnese, which had always eluded its control thanks to the security battalions. All captured towns and villages were "punished." In Meligala, 1,400 men, women, and children were massacred along with some 50 officers and noncommissioned officers from the security battalions.

Nothing now seemed to stand in the way of EAM-ELAS hegemony. But when Athens was liberated on 12 October it escaped the guerrillas' control because of the presence of British troops in Piraeus. The KKE leadership hesitated to undertake a trial of strength, unsure of whether it wanted a place in a coalition government. When the ELAS refused a government demand to demobilize, Iannis Zegvos, the Communist agriculture minister, demanded that all government units be disbanded too. On 4 December, ELAS patrols entered Athens, where they clashed with government forces. By the following day, almost the entire capital had fallen under the control of the 20,000-strong ELAS forces; but the British stood firm, awaiting reinforcements. On 18 December the ELAS again attacked EDES in Epirus and at the same time launched a bloody antiroyalist operation.

The offensive was contained, and in talks held in Varkiza the Communists resigned themselves to a peace accord under which they agreed to disarm. The accord was something of a sham, however, since large numbers of weapons and munitions remained carefully hidden. Ares Velouchiotes, one of the principal warlords, rejected the Varkiza conditions, rejoined the partisans with about one hundred men, and then crossed into Albania in the hope of continuing the armed struggle from there. Later, asked about the reasons for the defeat of the EAM-ELAS, Velouchiotes replied frankly: "We didn't kill enough people. The English were taking a major interest in that crossroads called Greece. If we had killed all their friends, they wouldn't have been able to land. Everyone described me as a killer -- that's the way we were. Revolutions succeed only when rivers run red with blood, and blood has to be spilled if what you are aiming for is the perfectibility of the human race." Velouchiotes died in combat in June 1945 in Thessaly, a few days after he was thrown out of the KKE. The defeat of the EAM-ELAS unleashed a wave of hatred against the Communists and their allies. Groups of militants were assassinated by paramilitary groups, and many others were imprisoned. Most of the leaders were deported to the islands.

Nikos Zachariadis, the secretary general of the KKE, had returned in May 1945 from Germany, where he had been deported to Dachau. His first declarations clearly announced KKE policy: "Either the EAM struggle for national liberation is finally rewarded with the establishment of a people's democracy in Greece, or we return to a similar but even more severe regime than the last fascist monarchist dictatorship." Greece, exhausted by the war, seemed to have little chance of enjoying peace at last. In October the Seventh Party Congress ratified Zachariadis' proposal. The first stage was to obtain the departure of the British troops. In January 1946 the U.S.S.R. demonstrated its interest in Greece by claiming at a United Nations Security Council meeting that the British presence constituted a danger to the country. On 12 February 1946, when defeat for the Communists in the coming elections seemed inevitable -- they were calling on their voters to abstain -- the KKE organized an uprising, with the help of the Yugoslav Communists.

In December 1945 the members of the KKE Central Committee had met with various Bulgarian and Yugoslav officers. The Greek Communists were assured that they could use Albania, Bulgaria, and Yugoslavia as bases. Fore more than three years their troops did so, retreating with their wounded into these countries and using them to regroup and build up supplies and munitions. These preparations took place a few months after the creation of the Communist Information Bureau (Cominform), the Moscow-dominated grouping of world Communist parties. It seems that the Greek Communist uprising was perfectly coordinated with the Soviet Union's new policies. On 30 March 1946 the KKE declared that a third civil war was under way. The first attacks by the Democratic Army (AD), which had been established on 28 October 1946 and was led by General Markos Vafiadis, followed the usual pattern: police stations were attacked, their occupants killed, and leading local figures executed. The KKE openly continued such actions throughout 1946.

In the first months of 1947 general Vafiades intensified his campaign, attacking dozens of villages and executing hundreds of peasants. The ranks of the AD were swollen by enforced recruitment. Villages that refused to cooperate suffered severe reprisals. One village in Macedonia was hit particularly hard: forty-eight houses were burned down, and twelve men, six women, and two babies were killed. After March 1947 municipal leaders were systematically eliminated, as were priests. By March the number of refugees reached 400,000. The policy of terror was met with counterterror, and militant left-wing Communists were killed in turn by right-wing extremists.

In June 1947, after a tour of Belgrade, Prague, and Moscow, Zachariadis announced the imminent formation of a "free" government. The Greek Communists seemed to believe that they could follow the same path taken by Tito a few years earlier. The government was officially created in December. The Yugoslavs provided nearly 10,000 volunteers recruited from their own army. Numerous reports from the UN Special Commission on the Balkans have established the great importance of this assistance to the Democratic Army. The break between Tito and Stalin in 1948 had direct consequences for the Greek Communists. Although Tito continued his aid until the autumn, he also began a retreat that ended with closure of the border. In the summer of 1948, while the Greek government forces were engaged in a massive offensive, the Albanian leader Enver Hoxha also closed his country's border. The Greek Communists became increasingly isolated, and dissent within the Party grew. The fighting continued until August 1949. Many of the combatants fled to Bulgaria and thence to other parts of Eastern Europe, settling particularly in Romania and the U.S.S.R. Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, received thousands of refugees, including 7,500 Communists. After this defeat, the KKE in exile suffered a number of purges, and as late as 1955 the conflicts between the pro-and anti- Zachariadis factions [were] still extremely fierce, so much so that at one point the Soviet army was forced to intervene, resulting in hundreds of casualties.

During the civil war of 1946-1948, Greek Communists kept records on all the children aged three to fourteen in all the areas they controlled. In March 1948 these children were gathered together in the border regions, and several thousand were taken into Albania, Bulgaria, and Yugoslavia. The villagers tried to protect their children by hiding them in the woods. The Red Cross, despite the enormous obstacles placed in [its] path, managed to count 28,296. In the summer of 1948, when the Tito-Cominform rupture became apparent, 11,600 of the children in Yugoslavia were moved to Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Romania, and Poland, despite many protests from the Greek government. On 17 November 1948, the Third UN General assembly passed a resolution roundly condemning the removal of the Greek children. In November 1949 the General Assembly again demanded their return. These and all subsequent UN resolutions remained unanswered. The neighboring Communist regimes claimed that the children were being kept under conditions superior to those they would be experiencing at home, and that the deportation had been an humanitarian act.

In reality the enforced deportation of the children was carried out in appalling conditions. Starvation and epidemics were extremely common, and many of the children simply died. Kept together in "children's villages," they were subjected to courses in politics in addition to their normal education. At age thirteen they were forced into manual labor, carrying out arduous tasks such as land reclamation in the marshy Hartchag region of Hungary. The intention of the Communist leaders was to form a new generation of devoted militants, but their efforts ended in failure. One Greek called Constantinides died on the Hungarian side fighting the Soviet Union in 1956. Others managed to flee to West Germany.

From 1950 to 1952 only 684 children were permitted to return to Greece. By 1963, around 4000 children (some of them born in Communist countries) had been repatriated. In Poland, the Greek community numbered several thousand in the early 1980s. Some of them were members of Solidarity, and were imprisoned after the introduction of martial law in December 1981. In 1989, when democratization was well under way, several thousand Greeks still living in Poland began to return home.

The warm welcome extended to the defeated Greek Communists in the U.S.S.R. contrasted strangely with Stalin's annihilation of the Greek community that had lived in Russia for centuries. In 1917 the number of Greeks in the Soviet state was between 500,000 and 700,000, concentrated for the most part around the Caucasus and the Black Sea. By 1939 the number had fallen to 410,000, mainly because of "unnatural" deaths, not emigration; and there were a mere 177,000 remaining by 1960. After December 1937 the 285,000 Greeks living in the major towns were deported to the regions of Arkhangelsk, the Komi republic, and northeastern Siberia. Others were allowed to return to Greece. During this period A. Haïtas, a former secretary of the KKE, and the educator J. Jordanis died in [Stalinist] purges. In 1944, 10,000 Greeks from the Crimea, the remnants of what had been a flourishing Greek community there, were deported to Kirgizstan and Uzbekistan, on the pretext that they had adopted a pro-German stance during the war. On 30 June 1949, in a single night, 30,000 Greeks from Georgia were deported to Kazakhstan. In April 1950 the entire Greek population of Batumi suffered a similar fate.

Editorial comment - A man meets a fellow villager on the road and sees that one of his eyes has been put out. Curious, he asks: "Neighbor, what has happened to your eye?" The neighbor replies: "My brother put it out." At which point the first man says: "Ah, that explains why the wound is so deep." Greek proverb

Authorities Identify Gun Used in Golden Dawn Shooting, Expert Says Executioners Imported (VIDEOS)

The Greek government and the entire political world face as a new nightmare following the terrorist attack at the Golden Dawn offices in Neo Heraklio on Friday. The attack claimed the lives of two men, aged 22 and 26, while a third man is currently battling for his life and reported to be in critical condition. The attack is indeed puzzling as it opens a circle of political violence that can dangerously complicate the atmosphere in Greece. Reports said that the counter terrorism squad is trying to determine the motives behind the attack but things are still unclear.

It should be reiterated that two assailants escaped on a motorbike after shooting at four men standing on the pavement outside the offices of the Golden Dawn party in Neo Heraklio at about 7pm local time on Friday evening.  Authorities sent 12 9mm shell cases which were found at the scene of the crime for ballistic examination.

The two men killed in the attack have been identified as Argyris Kapelonis, 22, and Giorgos Fountoulis 26. The third victim, aged 29, was immediately rushed to the Gennimatas hospital where he underwent extensive surgery and is now reported to be in critical condition. The gunman also fired at a fourth Golden Dawn member, but luckily he managed to get inside a building unharmed.

On Saturday, authorities announced that they identified the gun used in the shooting. The gunman apparently fired 12 rounds from a Zastava Tokarev-type semi-automatic pistol. Reports said that twelve 9 mm cartridges were recovered from the scene of the cime, and ballistic tests showed the semi-automatic gun had not been used in criminal or terrorist activity before. They also said that the counter terrorism squad has taken away a motorcycle which was found three blocks away from the crime scene for forensic tests.

Quite interestingly, earlier in the morning, and while speaking to two reporters on MEGA channel,  John Michaletos, an expert and analyst on national security issues, said that there is a high probability that we are dealing with "imported executioners", who, according to him, acted with a cold and professional manner, that is "rare but not something new."

Michaletos said that the case is more reminiscent of hits made in various European cities by teams from the former Eastern bloc, because it was so well organized. In his expert opinion, in attacks such as these, there is always a second team stationed somewhere nearby which checks if the hit men have a free scope to perform their hit.

He said that hits like these are very unfamiliar territory for Greek authorities and noted that if the investigations do not yield anything specific within the first 48 hours, then it will be very difficult to identify the perpetrators who committed this crime. He then said that maybe the perpetrators have already left the country (or are planning to do so over the next few days).

The various reports that claimed that the victims were shot at at point range were also confirmed on Saturday when it was announced that a video from a nearby security camera confirmed accounts from Golden Dawn members that the attacker started firing from 15 metres away and killed his victims at point-blank range.

A separate report on defencenet also said something else that was quite interesting. It said that there are some concerns within the Golden Dawn party that the actual targets of Friday night's shooting were MPs Panagiotis Iliopoulos and George Germenis. It should be noted that the two young boys who were killed, or George Fountoulis and Manolis Kapelonis, have many striking similarities with the two MPs.

Meanwhile, the mother the third man, 29-year-old Alexandros Gerontas, who was shot outside Golden Dawn’s offices in northern Athens on Friday night has undergone surgery and is currently in critical condition. His mother told reporters on Saturday (on SKAI tv) that doctors performed a splenectomy on the victim, and that he is currently battling for his life.
“Alexandros is battling, his injuries are very serious. His heart and vital organs have not been damaged. Let God protect all the children of the world,” she said.
She also noted that her son was a sympathizer rather than member of the Golden Dawn party and she called for no more blood to be shed.

Following the brutal murders, Golden Dawn spokesman Elias Kassidiaris confirmed that the two victims were members of the Golden Dawn party. In statements to Star TV he talked about the terrorist attack and criticized the government and the Minister of Public Order and Justice.

On Defencenet one report slammed the government which it said is highly responsible for the hit, because it had information about an imminent "political hit" from mid-October. The same report also noted that following a government decision, the State had withdrawn police protection from the members of the Golden Dawn party and its offices, even though party members had continued to notify authorities that they were being physically threatened.

Speaking about the police. Currently, authorities are examining all avenues, particularly those that link these events to extremist groups. (More exactly they are looking into attacks that were performed by groups describing themselves as revolutionary and anti-authoritarian are relatively common in Greece). Most of these groups don't usually perform executions, with the exception of a fatal shooting that was conducted in 2009. In this case a police officer was killed by three unknown gunmen, while in another case in 2010 a journalist was shot dead at his home. Both these killings were claimed by the Sect of Revolutionaries, which is a highly dangerous extremist group. The Sect of Revolutionaries has been quiet of late, but another extremist group called the Conspiracy of Fire Nuclei has claimed responsibility for a series of recent attacks including a bomb attack on the car of the Athens prison director.

PASOK MP Implicated In Karamanlis Wire-Tapping Case - Breached State Secrets

The buzz in the press on Friday, and certainly one of the most controversial stories, concerns the investigation into the assassination attempt and illegal wire-tapping scandal against former prime Minister Costas Karamanlis, which on Friday took on a unpredictable (or predictable) turn. According to press reports, judicial officials are now closing in on several individuals which they feel played a catalytic role in both cases. Unfortunately the story was swept under the rug on Friday night because of the terrorist attack against the Golden Dawn party -which resulted in the death of two of its members-, and the Greek press did not even open the subject on the nightly news. Not to worry though, HellasFrappe is always on top of things. Besides would we miss an opportunity to lash out at our least favorite party? NEVER!!!

(It should be reminded that the 2008 December riots, the Wire-Tapping Scandal against the former PM, and the Pythia Plan -which aimed at assassinating the former prime minister as well as destabilising Greece socially, economically and politically- were all merged into one massive investigation by a Prosecutor of the Hellenic Supreme Court, and the investigation has been ongoing for two years now).

According to the reports, magistrate Mr. D. Foucas who is investigating this huge case, summoned Michalis Karchimakis to give evidence in a judicial investigation that is focused on the wiretapping scandal, which was first uncovered in 2005, after a top-secret document was found at his home.(Note the PASOK MP is not implicated in the wire-tapping scandal directly, but rather on the sidelines of this huge state investigation.)

Who is Mr. Karchimakis? Well... here is where it gets interesting. Michalis Karchimakis  is a leading PASOK MP who was also the party's General Secretariat several years ago after being hand selected by (none other... than) George Papandreou. The charges against him are very serious, and include the breach of confidential state secrets.

Foukas also filed charges against an employee from the Greek intelligence service (EYP), who apparently apologized for her acts and according to reports she was then released on restrictive terms. So why is Karhimakis being slapped with breaching confidential State secrets, and why is a former intelligence officer facing similar charges? Well, according to the same reports, Michalis Karchimakis was accused by an officer from Greece’s National Intelligence Service (EYP) of asking for top-secret documents to be given to him in 2006. This is what prompted magistrate Dimitris Foukas to oversee a search of Karchimakis’s house, where a secret document was discovered. The ex-minister now faces charges of breaching the state secrets law and is requested to appear before the magistrate on November 8.

It should be reiterated that Foukas is investigating the circumstances surrounding the wiretapping scandal that helped unidentified eavesdroppers listen in on the mobile phone conversations of then Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis and more than 100 others before, during and after the 2004 Athens Olympics. Ericsson, which supplied the telephone exchange that was hacked into, and Vodafone, which was the service provider, were both fined by the Hellenic Authority of Communications Security and Privacy (ADAE) in 2007 for failing to protect the privacy of those who had their phones hacked, which included the head of EYP, several ministers and members of the armed forces.

The wiretaps were discovered by Ericsson on March 7, 2005 and Vodafone immediately asked for the software to be deactivated. Investigating authorities said that this decision prevented them from discovering who was recording the conversations, although EYP stated that the source of the eavesdropping was somewhere in central Athens.

Reports also noted that Foukas’s investigation has at the same time uncovered the alleged involvement of a foreign national in the wiretaps and that judicial authorities are now trying to track down the suspect.

We want to once again remind readers that all three cases (2008 December riots, Wire-Tapping Scandal, and Pythia Plan - which was the backbone to the assassination attempt and destabilization plan against Karamanlis and Greece) were all merged into one massive investigation by a Prosecutor of the Hellenic Supreme Court. The integration and correlation of files, on the one hand, documents the motives and deceit committed in all three cases, and on the other, intends to present dramatic evidence as to the "why" or the background of all three cases.

More specifically the move to bind all three cases has as its aim to:
  • Reveal the names of foreign intelligence agents involved in these cases.
  • Reveal a document that proves that George Papandreou was well aware about the "postponement or total dismissal" of various policies that dealt with several Greek pipeline agreements (especially those signed between Greece and Russia).
  • Reveal information about mysterious Cypriot deposits that in return reveal other startling evidence.
  • Reveal evidence proving that Costas Karamanlis was instructed in February 2009 to avoid any movement in Athens (in other words was warned to take security measures), and this resulted in confining him only at the Maximos Mansion and his home in Rafina (giving the opposition and the media a reason to say that he wasn't active and was worn out).
  • Reveal that specific "journalists" were collaborating with foreign centers (against the government at the time as well as Greece). Wikileaks has already published a cable outlining that foreign powers involved in this case. (Incidentally in one of those cables which are featured here on HellasFrappe under Features and then under Leaks, Karamanlis was baptized as "Buddha", from several (idiotic) reporters who apparently used this characterization against him to create strange connotations that were involved with this case).
  • Reveal evidence that foreign embassies operating in Athens were convinced that Karamanlis would fall in 2008 -or after the 'accidental' fires in the Peloponnese-. (Tip: If you can put two and two together, then try and remember which politicians said they wanted the tanks on the streets in December, and you will hit the jackpot!)
  • Reveal evidence about a bomb that was discovered at a shipowners dinner gala but which was luckily removed before being detonated!
  • Reveal shocking testimony from the former head of the Greek Intelligence Agency Mr.Korantis (who later became an MP with the LAOS party).
  • And many other aspects of the case will be presented as well.
  • Check the article we featured on this by clicking here
The role of the former adviser to George Papandreou, or the mysterious Alex Rondos is also being investigated. HellasFrappe had featured an article by the Epikaira magazine about this mystery man in the past, and featured a couple of stories on him that certainly open a series of discussions. For one, he is 100 percent in favor of opening up the Aegean to Turkey, and two, this man always somehow appears in countries that are either rich in oil (and natural gas) or that will house energy pipelines.

Alex Rondos, who was a leading adviser at the Greek Foreign Ministry or while George Papandreou was there, (and while he was prime minister) is indeed an enigma. Rondos is apparently is a man of many missions in former Soviet republics that have "energy", with involvement in many NGOs in these countries, and a crucial role in the politics of Georgia which went into suicidal war against Russia in 2008, etc. etc. etc. Basically he is a man who has somehow mysteriously appeared in all the "hot spots" all over the world.

Let us not forget that Korantis had apparently informed the prosecution that Rondos was the man who knew about the conspiracy to assassinate Costas Karamanlis -leaving it to be understood that so did Papandreou-, but of course the former head of EYP never revealed anything else about him but rather said that the information that was given to Greek intelligence by Russian officers -about this whole case and the people involved- proved completely reliable.

Please read the stories below for more details, as well as to reference the wiretapping case, the assassination plot, and find out who Mr. Rondos is. (All information is sourced, and references are made)
