Police officer kills 7-year-old daughter

A 47-year-old police sergeant stationed in Thessaloniki was arrested on Wednesday for killing his 7-year-old daughter. Reports suggest that the 47-year-old man strangled his daughter at the family's apartment and then contacted the police. Paramedics were rushed to the scene, but it was too late. At the time of the crime his spouse and other children were not at home.

It is still unknown what triggered the tragedy but some tabloid reports suggested that the 7-year-old victim was noisy.

Unconfirmed sources indicate that the officer had been diagnosed with an anxiety disorder in 2003-04, however a medical committee later found that he was fit for duty.
