The Greek Orthodox Church's spiritual centre from the monastic community of Mt Athos now has its own app for smart phones. The smart new application is called “Calendar” and users can access it to receive information concerning holidays, fasting days and material pertaining to the lives of saints, as well as practical information.
Every year, this holy community receives more than 300,000 guests and pilgrims, who need to be guided through the community’s numerous monasteries and facilities.
The idea for the app came from the owner of an IT company in Thessaloniki, who is also a frequent guest of Mt. Athos. According to reports, he contacted the community and the monks agreed to contribute to this free of charge initiative which aims to enlighten the faithful on matters of religious nature.
