Vast Number of Greek State Workers Hired With Fake Diplomas

It looks like more public sector workers will be looking towards the exit door in the days to come. According to press reports, Greek public inspectors recently discovered that there has been a large number of civil workers who used fake diplomas (or posted fake credentials) that were working in various municipalities and public organisations in and around the Attica region.

Specifically, an article in the To Ethnos newspaper claims that in a random sample of 5,000 employees’ at least 316 were hired after posting fake credentials.

The Internal Audit Service, which is a part of the Ministry of Public Administration, has been going over these files. On its part it revealed that it is suspected that most of the people referred to have submitted fake high school diplomas to the state in order to be hired. And if that wasn't enough, some files even show that some employees altered their grades on their diplomas so that they can improve their chances of being hired.
