PM Visits With Nat'l Soccer Team Ahead of Trip To Brazil For World Cup

The Greek national soccer team got an unexpected surprise on Friday at the Aghios Kosmas sports facilities ahead of their departure in early June for the World Cup 2014 in Brazil. Accompanied by the former captain of the Greek national team Theodoris Zagorakis (also candidate for the European Parliament with New Democracy), Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras congratulated the players for their qualification in the World Cup finals and wished them good luck in Brazil.

On his part, the captain of the Greek team George Karagounis thanked the premier and Zagorakis for their visit and offered them a T-shirt and a World Cup ball with the signatures of all the players. At the same time they met with coach Fernando Santos.

On the subject of the Greek national soccer team, head coach Fernando Santos offered no surprise selections in his 23-man squad for June's FIFA World Cup games in Brazil.

As such the following was announced:

Goalkeepers: Orestis Karnezis, Panagiotis Glykos, Stefanos Kapin

Defenders: Kostas Manolas, José Holebas, Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Vasilis Torosidis, Giorgos Tzavelas, Loukas Vyntra, Vaggelis Moras

Midfielders: Alexandros Tziolis, Andreas Samaris, Giannis Maniatis, Kostas Katsouranis, Giorgos Karagounis, Panagiotis Tachtsidis, Ioannis Fetfatzidis, Lazaros Christodoulopoulos, Panagiotis Kone

Forwards: Dimitris Salpingidis, Giorgios Samaras, Konstantinos Mitroglou, Theofanis Gekas
