The goal from all parties that are running in this weekend's second round of municipal elections is to attract the votes from the supporters of the Golden Dawn party. Earlier in the week, HellasFrappe released a special report about this noting that we will be witnessing this throughout the week. As it happens, all parties began courting GD's supporters who until several days ago were characterized as being neonazis or extremists, suddenly being baptized as being lost, misguided or had accidentally got on the forbidden path.
In such a climate, GD spokesman Elias Kassidiaris called on the supporters of his party to reject these candidates because, as he claims they still support the criminal prosecution of Golden Dawn.
In a statement, at a televised news conference Kassidiaris attempted to put to rest the feverish debate about whom Golden Dawn voters will support in the second round. He was flanked by the MP wife of jailed Golden Dawn leader Nikos Michaloliakos and by MP Ilias Panagiotaros, who garnered 11% of the vote in the Attica governorship race.
The question is particularly pertinent in the Athens mayoral race, in which candidate Kasidiaris garnered 16% of the vote, but failed to make it into the second round.
Some may feel that this would greatly benefit the main opposition SYRIZA party but they should realize that the extremist Left party is a sworn enemy of Golden Dawn.
Kassidiaris' harsh criticism of SYRIZA's nationwide electoral results – he noted that the party had a substantial drop nationwide compared to its 2012 general elections showing – suggest that any type of extreme-right support is not on the cards.
While that theoretically leaves it to be understood that the far-right party may endorse other candidates around the country, Kassidiaris rushed to dismiss this possibility by stressing that the only vote not wasted is one for Golden Dawn.
The GD spokesman even said that there was overall an exceedingly large number of spoiled and invalid Golden Dawn ballots in the first round.
And if that wasn't enough, Kassidiaris even stated that Minister of Justice Haralambos Athanassiou even attempted -but luckily failed- to persuade the Supreme Court of Greece to declare Golden Dawn tickets illegal.
This is why, according to him, his party decided to call on voters to act as judicial representatives – state electoral monitors – in Sunday's elections, presaging possible clashes between official election monitors and party representatives.
As for the crucial European Parliament elections, Kassidiaris noted that Golden Dawn deputies in Brussels are planning to work closely with the French National Front party of Marine Le Pen, whom he described as a visionary.
The statements from Kassidiaris obviously infuriated Evangelos the Large, who is doing everything in his power to endorse the laughable Olive Tree party which he is helping to establish.
In an interview with Mega Channel, Venizelos claimed that the Sunday results will “affect the attitudes of the parties” and that the next milestone is the election of a new President of the Republic in 2015.
He said that he was one of the first who warned against the rise of the Golden Dawn party in spring 2012 and that is why he called for a united response from all parties at the time, leaving it to be obviously understood that he is the mastermind behind the persecution of GD.
He then argued that “nobody can flirt with Golden Dawn, because "those people" (as if the supporters are diseased) support a part and a criminal organization.”
What he didn't care to comment on, however -and which was somehow and suspiciously forgotten by the interviewer from MEGA channel- is that prominent members from his own party are already behind bars or awaiting trial on acts of corruption, bribery, etc, or basically on crimes that are usually conducted by a criminal organization. How would someone thereafter characterize his supporters?

"We don't look at voters as sheep, but under no circumstances will these people vote for the thugs who hatched this conspiracy against us [Golden Dawn's prosecution]," Kassidiaris declared. His statement was a clear signal that Golden Dawn is encouraging voters not to choose candidates backed by the New Democracy party and especially those that are supported by the incompetent PASOK/Elia party of Evangelos Venizelos (who quite incidentally is continuing to outlaw GD but allowing his reps to ask for their vote).

"Golden Dawn is the only political force in the country that is rising," the party spokesman said.Kassidiaris also charged that there was election tampering in at least two Athens polling precincts where the party had stationed its own observers. Specifically he said that at precinct 1022 his party's monitors saw 77 votes counted for, Golden Dawn, whereas the competent interior ministry recorded only 36. He charged that in another instance, 44 votes for Golden Dawn counted were reduced to 21 by the ministry.
