Russians Eye Piraeus Port

Russian Railways President Vladimir Yakunin recently expressed interest in participating to Piraeus port privatization process.

According to Greek press reports, Yakunin noted that Russian Railways is also interested in buying TrainOSE (the Hellenic Railways, or OSE, operator), the Thessaloniki port and Rosco (OSE΄s rolling stock company), and are currently waiting for the Greek side΄s response. He said that the Russian company "has not yet received Greece΄s answer regarding the companies΄ privatization.

A report in capital.gr said that Russian Railways is interested in Greece and Bulgaria΄s railways in the framework of developing a new intra-Eurasian railway system connecting Russia with Europe, which will also abolish the need to change railway cars before reaching Vienna.
