Counter Terrorism Police Discover Weapons & Explosives in Gyzi, 4 Men Arrested (VIDEO)

Greece's counter terrorism unit arrested four Turkish terrorists on Monday who are suspected of being members of the extreme leftist guerrilla organization (DHKP-C). Reports in Athens said that the arrests were made during an operation in an apartment house in Gyzi where a large number of weapons and explosives were also discovered.

The terrorists are also suspected of being members of the organization’s hit squad. A report in Kathimerini said that one of the four is being sought by Interpol in connection with a bloody terrorist assault in Turkey. Although they are said to have been in possession of forged Georgian passports, the four men are believed to be of Kurdish descent -but with Turkish citizenship-.

According to the Hellenic Police the investigators found:
  • 1 Kalashnikov
  • 3 clips
  • 1 7,65 mm pistol
  • 1 Browning 7,65 mm
  • 1 C2
  • 1 silencer
  • 2 Scorpion 9 mm sub machine guns
  • bullets
  • 6,350 grams of dynamite in bobbins
  • 2 F1 grenades
  • 1 mini UZI
  • 3 computers
  • maps of Athens, Alexandroupolis and Turkey
  • Berets with the DHKP-C Kurdish organization badge

Reports claim that the weapons that were found in Gyzi appear to be related to the weapons that were discovered in the summer of 2013 on board a speedboat that was traveling between the islands of Chios and Oinousses. Authorities had recovered two anti-armor rockets, four grenades, two pistols, detonators and bullets.

Among those arrested are two Turkish nationals who are suspected of having ties to DHKP-C and who were apparently planning a terrorist attack in Turkey.

The DHKP-C, is short for the Revolutionary People’s Liberation Party-Front. It was founded in 1978 and has been labelled as a terrorist organization by Turkish authorities, as well as the United States and even the European Union. In recent years the group has been involved in attacks against the Turkish Ministry of Justice as well as the political offices of Turkish PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara.

The counter terrorism unit is continuing with its investigation. The main concern now is how such heavy weaponry and explosives found their way to this apartment and what these four foreigners intended to do with them.

A female resident of the apartment block in Gyzi apparently told authorities that she often saw the suspects entering and exiting the building with suitcases and rucksacks.

The arrests came after a 44-year-old woman, who is wanted in Turkey for terrorism offenses, -and also thought to be a Kurd-, was arrested in Herakleio, Crete last weekend.
