3 Deputies Under Investigation for Undelcared Overseas Remittances

Independent Greek party MP Vasilis Kapernaros, DIMAR MP Maria Repousi and New Democracy MP Vasilis Kikilias are being audited for overseas remittances, according to an announcement from the Ministry of Finance. The announcement was made on Monday in the framework of dispelling rumors that were circulating in the press (or that were exposed in a Ta Nea article on Sunday) claiming that three high-ranking New Democracy MPs were involved in the potential scandal. As it turns out, it is not three ND deputies, but the case revolves around the suspicious cash remittances of three separate MPs from a variety of political parties.

In the announcement the Ministry noted that the three MPs were amongst 24,710 cases that are currently being investigated for similar purposes. Also included on the list, are the wives of PASOK MP Nikos Sifounakis as well as the wife of Mr. Kapernaros.

The General Secretary of Public Revenue also clarified that it cannot determine the origin funds, only whether funds can be justified by the taxpayer’s assets.
