| As the progenitor nation of the Olympic games & in keeping with tradition, Greece entered 1st during the opening ceremony. |
Greece sent several athletes to the 2014 Games in beautiful Sochi, Russia. The Greek team consists of seven athletes in four sports. Greece has been taking part in the winter Olympic games since 1936!. In a cry to rally support for the Greek team, HellasFrappe surfed the web and discovered an introductory video of our athletes that was made by a former member of the National Greek Alpine Ski team, Pavlos Tripodakis. In this mini-documentary, Pavlos introduces us to the team in one of the most charming picturesque settings in downtown Athens. The team then take all of us to the Alps where they display their competitive spirit. The video is titled “Our Olympic Team 2014″ and features the music of Greek composer Vangelis. It is in the Greek language with English subtitles.
TRIVIA: Cross-country skier Panagiota Tsakiri became the youngest Greek athlete to compete at an Olympic Winter Games in Turin in 2006. She took part in the women's sprint event at age 15. She switched to biathlon in Vancouver in 2010, where she competed alongside her father Athanassios, who was appearing in his fifth Olympic Winter Games. The pair made history as the first father and daughter to compete at the same edition of the Olympic Winter Games.
