Police searched the homes of self-styled anarchists and Xiros' relatives in both Athens and Thessaloniki on Tuesday as the United States State Department urged the Greek government to catch this terrorist as quickly as possible.
Expressing the State Department's concern about Xiros’s disappearance a spokesman said:
“We are deeply concerned that convicted terrorist Christodoulos Xiros, a central member of the 17 November terrorist organization that killed five US mission employees, remains at large and is now allegedly issuing renewed calls for violence,” he said.During the raids, authorities discovered a pistol and some bullets that were found in the home of a self-styled anarchist in the Athens district of Exarhia. According to Kathimerini, the suspect, identified from his initials G.K., is known to the police since he was arrested in 2005 when equipment was stolen from riot police in front of PASOK’s headquarters.
“We remain engaged with Greek officials concerning this case. We continue to call on the Greek Government to locate Xiros and return him to prison.”
No incriminating evidence was discovered during the searches of homes of people who have been linked with urban guerrilla groups in the past.
No other information concerning the investigation has been released.
Meanwhile, Public Order Minister Nikos Dendias on Wednesday said that the country would offer a reward of 4 million Euros for the arrest of terrorists. The minister’s comments were made following a visit to Greek police headquarters, while the government would release an official statement regarding the reward later in the day.
Christodoulos Xiros, who today is 55-years-old, was charged with six life sentences for carrying out killings as part of the notorious November 17 organization.
