After the mysterious stabbing of an investigating magistrate at the Athens main court complex on Friday, Greek judges and court staff announced that they are going to walk off the job on Monday demanding improved security at the country’s courts.

The 36-year-old magistrate was transferred to the Evangelismos hospital with serious injuries after being stabbed three times by an Iranian convict wielding a makeshift knife inside the court complex.

Authorities immediately detained the assailant but it is still unknown what the motive for the attack was. Also unknown is how the assailant managed to pass a knife through the normally tight security at the entrance to the Evelpidon court complex.

Reports claim that the assailant is a 37-year-old Iranian convict who was given conditional release last month from a prison on the island of Chios where he had been serving a 15-month term on gun offenses. According to the same reports the convict had been visiting the court complex to collect a document with details of the terms of his release.

(Editor's Note - It would be interesting to know what the Magistrate was investigating, because specific news sites want to present the convict as a madman... the question is why? This was not clarified... but we will keep a tab on things for you guys and if we discover anything we will add it to the article)
