The Athens International Airport (AIA) was awarded the 2013 Eco-Innovation Award last week by the independent Advisory Board of Airport Carbon Accreditation at the 9th Annual ACI Europe Best Airport Awards. The award ceremony was held during the opening reception of the joint ACI Europe/ACI World Annual Congress and Exhibition which was held in Constantinople, Turkey, between June 10 -12.
AIA apparently scored highest on criteria such as stakeholder engagement, staff training and innovation.
According to a press release by ACI Europe, "the AIA’s hard work to lower its CO2 emissions confirms that despite economic pressures, the company continues to seek and deliver environmental management systems that go well beyond regulatory requirements."
