Students Protest As "Athena" Education Plan Is Unveiled

The discussion on the education reform plan "Athena," sponsored by the ministry of education, was launched on Wednesday at the parliamentary Standing Committee on Cultural and Educational Affairs. The proposed reform plan, which is the product of public debate, was presented to MPs and all interested parties by Education Minister Konstantinos Arvanitopoulos.

During the presentation, students began to demonstrate outside of the University of Athens administration building against the planned abolition and mergers of higher education schools and departments.They claim that the reforms are going to downgrade their studies and diplomas.
