The successful promotion in Russia of the island of Crete as a holiday destination may result in a 30 pct surge in Russian tourists this summer, according to tourism officials. Returning from the Moscow tourism fair MITT 2013, vice-prefect of Crete and head of the delegation Evripidis Koukiadakis said that:
"Crete was promoted in a unified way in the Russian market and internationally. The increase of Russian tourists visiting Crete is expected to exceed 30 pct this year."
Similar evaluations were also made by the presidents of travel agents and hoteliers on the island, respectively.

While in Russia, delegates met with Russian tourism officials, mass media and local religious leaders, including the bishop of Moscow.
